A gift for our mother ~ Ben Bourque, Guitar - Ben & Paul Bourque, Vocals
My brother Benjamin and I covered âSound of Silenceâ for our mammy on Mumâs Day~
A perfect duet.
You will never escape this video as long as I am alive.
Is this video footage of @johannamasonjar and @jpaulbourque?
Ya who knew @johannamasonjar was such a good bassoonist.
Writing the themes for these baddies is my new favorite thing đźđ⨠@datvikingtho @johannamasonjar @marauders-fanfilm
This happened to my music when it got stuck while I was trying to copy it. Itâs terrifying.

I canât stop listening to @jpaulbourqueâs newest piece of the @marauders-fanfilm score. Itâs just been on loop for the past twenty minutes.Â
MY HEART đżâ¨đ
Stockhausenâs Refrain;Â
For three players, the score featured this passage notated on a transparent plastic sheet, which could be rotated and moved about the rest of the score to âinterruptâ the texture being created.

What advice would you give for a teenager trying to get some conducting experience?
Itâs very reassuring to hear you ask this... Conducting is one of those things that a lot of people assume you just âgetâ by watching your director over the course of grade school, but there really is nothing like the feeling of an ensemble reacting en masse under your baton for the first time.Â
Assuming youâre involved with your schoolâs music program, the best place to start is your music director. Ask about becoming an âassistant conductorâ, or if there are any scores you could study along side him/her (perhaps as part of a directed study?) and see if you can do any conducting during rehearsals.Â
A great opportunity for a lot of young musicians is auditioning for Drum Major (if your school has a marching band) but I must stress that this is a very different kind of conducting than what you would use with an orchestra, concert band or choir... Not a great deal of cross-over. Still, an excellent leadership experience that you really canât get anywhere else.
Do you compose at all? Probably the best kind of experience is to gather some friends and have them play through your pieces. Even if you donât compose, starting your own chamber orchestra or choir can really expose some of the challenges of organizing and rehearsing a group of musicians. Give yourselves a name, create a logo, and start making music! People start rock bands in high school all the time, but itâs not every day someone starts an orchestra ;DÂ Thereâs a tremendous amount of free public domain sheet music on imslp.org, for most any kind of ensemble imaginable, from any period of classical history.Â
Truly the best advice I can give is take charge. Find some music you simply must conduct and gather the troops. Pay them with pizza and friendship. You never know what you might start~

what composer you should fight
Bach - no. just no. one time bach got into a fight with a bassonist over his bassoon part, and, i quote John Elliot Gardiner, âwas forced to draw his sword and defend himself.â bassoon rage is terrifying, and bach was able to hold him off even though it was a surprise attack. donât fight bach. youâll lose. (plus if by some miracle you won, youâd have 18 children after you to avenge their father. do you really want small bachs chasing you the rest of your days?)
Handel - you could take handel probably. no killer instinct. do not let him get too close - he threatened to throw a singer out of a window once and could probably have carried through. take him down through attrition.
Haydn - you could absolutely take haydn. take him down quickly before he has a chance to trick you.
Mozart - depends. instrumentalists probably possess enough resentment to take him on easy. vocalistsâŚcould you really bring yourself to fight mozart? his arias are so nice. so flashy. so singable. go fight haydn instead. unless youâre a contralto. then absolutely fight mozart. fight everyone on this list.
Beethoven - DO NOT FIGHT BEETHOVEN. DO NOT FIGHT BEETHOVEN. DO NOT FIGHT BEETHOVEN. you will lose.
Rossini - absolutely fight rossini. youâll win. easy.Â
Schubert - why would you want to fight schubert. he is a precious tiny forest spirit who just wants to compose lovely songs. the only person who is authorized to fight schubert is the accompanist who has just been asked to play erlkonig for the sixth time. and even they will feel bad afterwards. go fight rossini instead.
Berlioz - yes. fight berlioz. absolutely fight berlioz. sure, afterwards you wonât be able to brag that you defeated berlioz since no one outside of music knows who he is, but at least youâll have a good victory on your hands.
Liszt - tough fight. liszt is 6 feet tall and has massive yaoi hands judging from his music. take him down from afar.Â
Chopin - please dont fight chopin. youâre better than that. it would be too easy. give yourself more of a challenge.
Brahms - this is a fight that you can win. just tell him youâre from the future and he never lived up to Beethovenâs name. donât feel bad when he starts to cry. just take him down then and there.
Schumann - donât do it. the problem is not robert himself, itâs the fact that clara will come after you. and she will beat you. this has nothing to do with you or your fighting abilities - if you fight robert schumann clara will find you and clara will end you.
Wagner - ABSOLUTELY FIGHT WAGNER. PLEASE fight wagner. I will pay literal, actual money to watch someone beat up wagner. you will get lots of help from everyone else in the music world including other composers. even if you have just fought them. everyone wants to see richard âdickâ wagner taken down. the only person in the music world more utterly fightable than wagner is andrew lloyd webber.
Verdi - go fight wagner instead.
Stravinsky - do not fight stravinsky. he will fuck you up.
Mahler - the same fight as brahms, except even easier.
Schoenberg - schoenberg has nothing to lose. he will be vicious. he will fight to his last breath. and when you are standing over him, bloodied, he will look up at you. and he will thank you. you will carry a twinge of uneasiness around with you for the rest of your life. occasionally you will hear a tone row in the distance. do not listen, do not investigate, or schoenberg will have won after all.

If you could fit the small Bachs in a small box, you might be able to get away with it...
