She waited out of sight for the broadcast to end, listening close to the source of the voice over the radio. It was a matter of simple deduction, finding her way to a radio station: the one who delivered the news would know the source of the news, and the source would no doubt get her closer to Comstock - or further away, if she was fortunate enough to find a means out of Columbia before that time. 

The pinky, she thought: portraits of a brown-haired baby missing the very same finger all across the city came to her recollection, hand swinging back to mask it behind her skirt. Nobody could know, least of all the man who could run right back to a microphone and tell everyone with a working speaker where their LAMB was (the pit in her stomach sunk deeper every time she thought of it; 19 years alone in a tower, and they had all gladly kept her there - ) but the door was opening and the man of the hour (morning and evening hours, and a few inbetween) was out on the street, for however brief a time.

    COLUMBIA’S BROADCAST SYSTEMS,      still ripe with his delayed farewells and outro music,   were coming to their conclusions as the station door opened.  while he had grown used to narrating many of his own rushed exits,  something about walking the streets alone continued to unsettle him.  with a hand still tautly placed atop the door,    it was no shock that the sudden conversation caught him unawares.  after jerking his head around instinctively   (   perhaps a bit too quickly   ) ,   it was made clear the other was not intent on physical harm,   and he started to regain his fractured composure.

               ❝     ——————yes.  yes, i am.  jack worthing.  were you waiting long  ?   you could have come inside instead of standing out in the heat.     ❞      the weather was the one thing he could never get used to. even in the building’s shade he felt he could overheat.      ❝     sorry,  was there something you needed help with  ?     ❞
