Jo had just scrubbed out of surgery. It hadn’t gone how she’d hoped, but the patient was going to make it, and that’s what mattered she reminded herself. She looked up at the OR board to see gauge when her husband should be done, and calculating the time in her head figured that if everything had gone according to plan he should have been out half an hour ago. She sat down on one of the benches and took a deep breath, ringing her hand. While she waited, she attempted to switch her thoughts to what she would make her kids for dinner. Being a surgeon and having a house full of growing teenagers was exhausting, but she wouldn’t trade it for the world. She’d always wanted a family, the thing she never had growing up. A few moments later she looked up as footsteps approached. “So I’m guessing your surgery went as smoothly as mine” she says softly, reaching up to embrace Alex. “Are you going to make it home for dinner? No idea what to make our army tonight.”
“Kidding honey, you’re fine.” She says, kissing him to prove her point. “Oh yeah, that too. We really wanted to maximize the opportunity that someone would take care of us in our old age. But I feel like that implies providing them with a proper childhood first.” She adds, shaking her head. “Come on, let’s go before we go home to a house in shambles.”
“Okay. But I’ll pass you when your game is off. I mean I did have the best teachers anyway. Don’t be surprised.”
