Laughing, Copper admitted, âKind of silly, isnât it? I should be able to come up with something better, but youâve got me a bit flustered. Thatâs not a bad thing though.â A handsome, successful, intelligent man flirting with him was more than enough to make Copperâs mind go blank, at least somewhat.  âTell you what,â Copper went on, âIâll think of something better and get back to you, okay? Sound good?â Then he admitted, âBut actually yes, Iâm experiencing writerâs block.â He didnât try to make a joke of this because it really bothered him, but he also didnât want to dwell on it. Raising his beer, Copper replied, âTo ending writerâs block,â clinking his beer against Josiahâs bottle and taking a slug. Setting the bottle down, Copper remarked, âHopefully itâs that easy. Maybe the answer really is at the bottom of this bottle.â And then he laughed.
When Josiah started asking which writer he took after, Copper was drawing a blank. Heâd read every author that Josiah had listened and normally could have thought of more, but he suddenly couldnât come up with anyone else.  âOf that list, I guess Stephen King is the closest,â Copper said, âbut even heâs not quite right.â Looking at Josiah and laughing, he continued, âYou know, Iâm normally more intelligible, but Iâm drinking and also donât do well when put on the spot. Later tonight, Iâll probably suddenly like of like five different authors I could have said.â When Josiah mentioned his niece knowing who Copper was, he perked up, saying, âReally? Youâre not just saying what I want to hear?â That made Copper feel so good, and he was beaming now.  âThank you for telling me that,â he said, reaching over to rest his hand on Josiahâs arm, giving it a squeeze and smiling at him.  âYouâve made me feel reallyâŚI donât know, great about myself in this relatively short conversation,â he informed Josiah.
âFlustered?â Josiah echoed with a thinking cant of his head. âWell, maybe youâre thinking about doing more than talking to me and I must say, I wouldnât mind it.â He listened to Copper and nodded after they clinked drinks. Josiah took a larger swallow of his before setting it down on the bar as they spoke of horror authors. He smiled when Copper was again flustered after Josiah mentioned his niece.
âSheâs a teenager living in an age of technology. Also, you should look in a mirror, who wouldnât think youâre attractive?â Josiah offered with a chuckle. âTell you what, Iâll introduce you to some East Asian resources on horror and perhaps, you can give me a signed copy of your book. She would be thrilled and I win an uncle of the year award.â He was mostly joking, but he was putting it out there for Copper to consider. He smirked when Copper touched his arm and he had to tell himself not to kiss the other man, not just yet. âIn the meantime, how about we walk down to the beach? Youâre looking a bit pale for living south of the Bahamas.â
