Honestly, when you ask a runner why they run, they usually can't answer you. We dread it often. We don't want to do it, most days. We try to compromise and self doubt. But if you ask a runner why they run after a race, thats when they will tell you. There are multiple reasons. I run for brotherhood. I run to be part of a team that is also my family. I run to show off to them, and to support them. I also run because there is nothing like the rush of the starting pistol, the thunder of many pairs of running shoes pounding trail. And that wrenching in your gut, the feeling in your lungs during a dead sprint to finish. There is nothing in this world like that. The experience of running is why we do it.
“Right before you head out running, it can be hard to remember exactly why you’re doing it. You often have to override a nagging sense of futility, lacing up your shoes, telling yourslef that no matter how unlikely it seems right now, after you finish you will be glad you went. It’s only afterward that it makes sense, although even then it’s hard to rationalize why. You just feel right. After a run, you feel at one with the world, as though some unspecified, innate need has been fulfilled.”

Running allows for a chance to briefly escape whatever troubles you may face. You run. You breathe. You embrace life. Nothing can bring you down as you find your own rhythm upon the ground. Each footfall leaving behind a trail of worries. Run. Breathe. Live.

Once that gun goes off, thats it. I have two parts in my races. The beggining, where its me verses my last time. That is good and fun but then comes the second part. My favorite. It's right near the end where its you, the guy behind you, and the guy ahead. It's all about moving your arms, morning your legs, just a little faster. About not being able to breathe, and speeding up even more anyways. It's all about that final sprint over the finish line, where you give everything you have and then some. Thats why I do cross country. Thats why I race.

This is my first uploaded run, and one of my worst so far.
