May be this is the right time to read the story of the States United by war, race, wealth, family and power.

A People's History of the United States is a 1980 non-fiction book by American historian and political scientist Howard Zinn. In the book, Zinn presented what he considered to be a different side of history from the more traditional "fundamental nationalist glorification of country". Zinn portrays a side of American history that can largely be seen as the exploitation and manipulation of the majority by rigged systems that hugely favor a small aggregate of elite rulers from across the orthodox political parties.

In our household doubts more troubling than these were suffered in silence. The spiritual void I have seen in so many of Istanbul's rich, Westernised, secularist families is evident in these silences. Everyone talks openly about mathematics, success at school, football and having fun, but they grapple with the most basic questions of existence - love,compassion, religion, the meaning of life, jealousy, hatred - in trembling confusion and painful solitude. They light a cigarette, give their attention to the music on the radio, return wordlessly to their inner worlds.

Twenty years on from the Soviet coup that ultimately ended Mikhail Gorbachev's political career and gave birth to 15 new states, The Guardian was keen to explore just how well those 15 former Soviet republics had performed as independent countries.

It was in many senses a traumatic break-up. Like a marriage, there was so much that was jointly owned that it was hard to make a clean break. Industries, military units, whole populations, were scattered across an empire, indivisible. Moreover, the economic crisis that led the USSR to the brink tilted most of the emergent countries into the abyss. GDP fell as much as 50 percent in the 1990s in some republics, Russia leading the race to the bottom as capital flight, industrial collapse, hyperinflation and tax avoidance took their toll. Almost as startling as the collapse was the economic rebound in the 2000s.

R K Laxman was a pioneer Indian cartoonist who created the daily comic strip You Said It, which chronicled Indian life and politics through the eyes of the “common man,” a bulbous-nosed bespectacled observer dressed in a dhoti and a distinctive checked coat who served as a silent point-of-view character for readers.

Although his Common Man had a witty and sarcastic approach to India’s politics, the cartoonist was always lauded for never being toxic in his approach.

Life is a switch. You are just a witness of all the universal moments. Yesterday was a sunny day and I haven't been introduced yet to the protoganist. Capitalism and Socialism are two dogmatic mantras of Politics. But after years of its rendering these ideas uphold it's value only when we define these ideas concurrently. Capitalism is not acquisition of money by individual but how then to spend it beneficially. Socialism is not wealth acquisition of the society. But then, how can an individual acquire it from the society. Without these ideas, both Capitalism and Socialism are mere thoughts from a leaking brain.
