jo was a crack baby, her mother was addicted & often used while she was pregnantΒ
her dad, a police officer, became emotionally and physically abusive to jo's mother when jo was ten years old :(Β
the only time jo would get hit would be when she would try to get her father to stop hitting her mom the abuse continued on for five years after that until jo could no longer take it anymore and one day after witnessing another severe beating jo took one of her father's guns and shot it up in the air, getting his attention and when he realizes the situation he wrestles to get the gun from jo, when a shot goes offΒ -Β her father collapses
her mother sits beside the body, crying as the police and ambulance come and jo is arrestedΒ
while in prison, she serves a year before being acquitted of the charges, her father survived, being that he was shot in the shoulder, but the blood loss caused him to be in a coma for a year.
when jo is released she immediately puts her mom in rehab and lives with a distant aunt for another year until she's kicked outΒ
at 16, she was homeless living underneath bridges, stealing for clothes and food, breaking into homes for showers, etc, & though all this was going on, she managed to get her gedΒ
while homeless she fell into the art/graffiti art scene, tagging subway's, buildings, anything reallyΒ
she has always had a passion for art, before her life went to hell she always imagined herself going to a fancy art school in ny but... yea ;( eventually she started getting national notice for her pieces and thus became a police target so she mostly did her art at night, and finds herself running from the police 24/7Β
by age 18, she is named "lady midnight" by the police and Chicago in reference to her art but seeing as there is no money involved in it she gets a job at a local diner earning enough cash to be able to get a shitty one bedroom apartment, under an alias so that her father doesn't try to track her downΒ
jo has become emotionally detached and tends to use her bluntness & anger to push those who come too close away, she swears like a sailor, has developed a dependency on cigarettes and cares very little about the law !
