Maddy and I planned, designed, and edited this whole thing in about 2 weeks. It was a fun final project to cap off our time with YWAM Montana Lakeside. It’s 30 pages of fun facts, statistics, and reports from the past year. We hope you enjoy it!
This past weekend was YWAM Montana Lakeside’s 30th Anniversary. On the first night we premiered the documentary that I’ve been working on for the past several months.
I started sorting through old footage for this film last November and the interns and I spent the entire summer shooting and editing this thing.
It was way more work than I initially imagined, but I’m really happy with the end product. It’s called “Just Beginning” and it’s the story of a small group of people who transformed a dilapidated old Air Force base into a thriving university campus that trains and sends hundreds of young missionaries each year.
We took the Creative Media Department and our interns to Glacier National Park this week to gather some footage for some videos we’re working on.
Here’s a few photos that I snapped on my phone. We’ll have some real photos and videos to share in the next week or two.

Went to the park, watched our local LARPing troupe, saw some goats and ducks, found some weird graffiti monolith thing, and watched the White Fish fire department try to put out a giant fire at a burning scrap yard. It was a decent lazy Sunday.👌🏼✌🏼

Mom's on MTV again. When I was a teenager, getting on MTV was probably one of my biggest dreams. I spent every weekend playing shows and every summer on the road. TRL was king, and getting a video on MTV was the ultimate goal for most bands. One time, Billy Talent briefly mentioned our band's name in passing during a short interview on MTV 2 and that was as close as I would get. MTV doesn't play music anymore but it's still worth watching every now and then when my mom gets to talk about how awesome adoption is on Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, or the Dr. Drew show. If you would have told a 16 year old me that someday my mom would be on MTV, I'd probably guess that it would be during a behind the scenes look at my super successful rock band. Mom may have beat all of us in the race to MTV, but if you look really hard at the background whenever they film in her office, you might just catch a glimpse of my photo on the wall. Thanks mom for getting us all on MTV.
The Somers Fire department burned the old studio building to the ground today. We needed to bulldoze it anyway and they wanted to practice a controlled burn so it worked out well for everyone. We shot a 6 hour time lapse of the entire process. I'll try to get that up tomorrow. It looks pretty cool. #YWAM #ywammontana (at Youth With A Mission)

Part 1: Days 13-15: Taipei, LA, Seattle, Kalispell Our trip home included 53 hours of travel, 4 different airlines, 2 canceled flights, 3 successful flights, 4 trips through immigration, and a bazillion headaches. It was pretty miserable. Here are some of the highlights. Our first plane spent 4 hours stranded on the Tarmac with a bad generator. We were in the very back row of the plane which meant that we ended up at back of the line of people trying to rebook our flight. We spent four hours waiting in a line that wasn't moving in a secluded section of the airport. During this 8-hour ordeal we were given a can of soda and a very meager ham and cheese sandwich on white bread. One thin slice of ham, one thin slice of cheese, and a little mayo. Not great. @United really screwed up. After four hours in line we still hadn't heard anything and we weren't any closer to talking to anyone. The pay phones didn't work and the wifi was incredibly spotty which led to several dropped calls with United's customer service. Veronica eventually got through to a United Rep on the phone and we got confirmed for a flight the next day with @Delta. Apparently they do that sometimes (switch you to a different company). We were eventually herded onto a taxi with no Taiwanese money, no idea where we were going, and no vouchers for food or transportation. At this point we still hadn't been able to talk with someone in person and we didn't really have any clue what was going on. The hotel was alright but it was kind of out in the boonies. Unfortunately, the hotel had already stopped serving dinner... We're now at 10 hours and we've still only been given the one pitiful sandwich which none of us could force ourselves to finish. None of the restaurants took credit cards or USD and we ended up walking around town in the rain trying to find food. We eventually found an ATM that denied two of our cards, but accepted a third. We got a little money out and picked up some McDonald's before crashing for the night.
Part 2: The next day we hopped on our new flight ready to put the previous day behind us. 2.5 hours later we were filing off the plane again due to an engine malfunction. This time around we were handed a food voucher immediately, given some snacks, and escorted up to the actual Delta desk to get new flights. For a brief time, it seemed like @Delta was going to succeed in all the ways that @United had failed. We ended up at the end of another line and things were moving smoothly and slowly for the first couple of hours. Things got really sketchy when an employee stood up and yelled "a flight to LA is about to leave, run up here if you want to go!" The line disintegrated into madness and somehow we ended up with tickets. As we were getting ready to run to the gate my checked bag got flagged by security due to all the camera batteries we had packed. We had to sprint back through security, immigration, and to the gate. We sat down on the plane, exhausted from our run, and barely managed to hear the captain's announcement over the sound of our huffing and puffing. "I'm sorry to announce that the flight has been delayed at least an hour". We landed in LA with no idea what to do next. We had no connecting flight info and the people we talked to on the phone weren't much help. The Delta rep insisted that they couldn't help us, that all the flights were full, and that there "was no possible way" to book us onto the Alaskan Airlines flight that had empty seats. It was looking like we would have to spend the rest of the day and night in LA. On top of all this confusion we ended up waiting two hours for our bags to show up. Our bags eventually arrived and we made our way up to the check-in counter. We ended up with a very nice woman who went out of her way to help us out. We got booked onto the "impossible" Alaskan Airlines flight home. The rest of our trip went fairly smooth. Not really looking forward to flying again in five days. We are all pretty bummed out with the service we received from Delta and United. Getting tossed from United, to Delta, to China Airlines, back to Delta, and eventually to Alaskan Airlines was exhausting.
