Goons For Hire

Harley clapped her hands together under her chin and gasped. “Really?! I was just payin’ ya a finders few but if you’ll really come that’s gonna be awesome! And don’t worry, I’ve got a guy on the inside. The guard owes me about a million favors and since I promised him no animals are gonna be harmed in the makin’ of this heist he’s happy to let a few pearls go missin’ and for some security cameras to not be workin’ right.”

Excitement bubbled in her chest as she listened to one side of the conversations Jonny was having. With her confirmation Harley fist pumped and laughed. “Alright! Let’s go get us some fancy spit!”

“Very well. I look forward to future business with you.” Joker finally turned away from Felix, and extended his hand for a quick shake with Jonny. Once the young woman left, his eyes moved to Felix’s face once again, a coy little tilt at the corners of painted lips.

“So, how long have you been in the business, Felix? Who have you worked for? How come we’ve never met until now?”

Harley rolled her eyes. “It’s not clam vomit.. More like oyster spit. Ambergris is whale vomit. And yeah, but I’m not gonna steal Ronaldo I just wanna shake his hand. That Octo won me ten thousand dollars on a bet.” She pulled a blood specked clump of one hundred dollar bills from the bag hanging off her shoulder. “I figured thirty thousand might be enough. Nine for each of them and twelve for you. And they can’t hurt any of the animals. I heard harpoons to the gut really hurt if ya know what I’m sayin’.”

Jonny rubbed her face as Harley held out the money. She didn’t goon herself out, not for a long time, but money was money, and she huffed, taking the cash as she gave it a quick flick through before pocketing it. “This is a one off Quinn, you know I don’t do this, I have to stay out of Blackgate long enough to get you lot out of Arkham, can’t do that shit while I’m away.” Well, she did have quite a few guards on the payroll. Life was a lot less stabby and shooty when you were helping the bad guys escape. 

“I believe this is the amount we agreed upon.” He put down a stack of cash, and slid it across the table towards Jonny. “Feel free to count while I ogle this sexy man.” He cradled a cheek with his palm, and leaned against the edge of the table, eyes half-lidded as he admired his newly hired goon.

“Mmm, pleasure to do business with you.” Jonny said with a nod, taking the stack of cash. “You’ll be hearing from me in regards to your other men within three days.” She noted, even though she was almost sure he wasn’t paying attention. She counted her money quickly, tripple checking before she nodded to herself, pulling out a few hundred bills as she slipped them into Felix’s hand. “If you need anything more, Felix has my phone number.” She said, smiling as she stood. 

“Don’t think of it as a job. Think of it as a girls night!” That really wasn’t going to work. “Okay fine. As long as it’s not the guys from Joker’s New Years parade fiasco in twenty sixteen. That was a shitstorm and a half.” Harley shrugged as a wide grin broke out, spreading her red lips. “Pearls as big as my head. They found some giant clams and there’s a huge exhibit about it with the real pearls.. Also an octopus named Ronaldo that I wanna meet.”

“If you don’t mind waiting, I’ll have the money for you after my meeting with Cobblepot. You can order anything you like while you wait. Just put it on my tab.” He gave her a wink. “Now if you’ll excuse me. The Penguin is waiting.” Taking his glass of wine and purse, he stood up from his seat, and fixed his skirt before sauntering away.

A small gasp filtered through his painted lips. “You’re setting me up tonight?” Joker’s eyes widened. “But I’m shy.” He cupped his hands around his face, and wiggled in his seat as though a flustered maiden. However, there was no hiding the delight in his gaze or the toothy, expectant grin. “I’ll take him, him, and him.” He tapped at three other pictures. “Felix I would love to see as soon as possible.”

“Yes, you can keep the picture.” She laughed, watching him take it away regardless, she always had copies, but if he was taking them, she wouldn’t need new ones until he was returned from Joker’s employ, if he ever was. 

“Oooh, I like this one. What a hunky man.” Joker grinned, eyes lighting up as he picked up one of the files. “Hello, handsome~ Why haven’t we met before?” He took the mugshot close to his face, and gave it a smooch, leaving a lipstick mark. “I can already tell he’s going to be one of my favourites.”

“Your businesses are your own,I have a strict no asking policy in that I will shoot any of the men who ask me what the jobs are for. They didn’t get to being goons by asking smart questions.” She said with a smile. “They’re aware of the risk, but they know the rewards.” Jonny shrugged lightly, pulling up her purse as she stuck a cigarette between her lips.

Once she put down the options, Joker leaned forward and looked them over. “What about experience? I want seasoned, nasty motherfuckers whose whole life’s motto is getting paid at the end of the day. I don’t got much in the raw strength department, so I’m not interested in men who’re stupid enough to think themselves smart. I’m all about earning respect, but I honestly can’t be bothered to try with a bunch of fodder. I don’t care if they’re loyal, but they have to know what they want. The last thing I need is dealing with a pig-headed merc who thinks he can throw his weight around me.”

Jonny flicked through several of the files in front of her as she placed a few more in front of him with a nod. “Several of them are well seasoned, they were with me when I started them up. They work hard, and they’re dedicated, won’t say no to an order and follow though.” She explained, nodding as she pushed them towards him. “I think anyone who’s managed to live this long in this kind of business is worth keeping around, and I pay them just enough so that they do keep coming back.”

A personal take on minor character Jonny Frost, supplying the crime bosses for their every goon need. 

“I got tall ones, small ones, one that breathe fire! Any and all of your goon needs can be taken care of with a one off payment! Need an ongoing service due to high demand, ask about my long-term service prices!”

“Oh honey, it’s custom.” Joker grinned, looking away when a server came up to their table with his favourite chardonnay. “Tell Ozzy I’ll see him after I’m done here, mm?” He said to the server, who poured him a glass and nodded.

“Look.” He turned back Jonny. “I’m sure you have a lovely speech prepared for me, but I’m easily bored. Money’s not a problem.” He just got a fat suitcase courtesy of a client with a lot of secrets. “I want people who can actually do shit against the Bat, not just big guys that can hold big guns. Batman is a clever son of a bitch, so I need guys that have smarts and brawn, preferably with big hands just in case I feel like fucking a few of them. Got any candidates?”

 She grinned widely as she cleared away a few of the folders to pull out several clients of hers with a variety of skills. “I have several just perfect for you Mister J.” Jonny smirked. “Both human and a few metas, just to make it a little more fun, of course, nothing too exotic, you want followers, not mutiny.” 

“Miss Frost,” Joker greeted, sauntering around the table and sitting down across from her. “With a name like that, one ought to think you’re related to Victor.” He smiled, putting his small, glittery purse aside. “So, word is you have some nice, friendly gentlemen for me to look at. I hope you have a good stock for me to choose from, darling, because I do loathe when people waste my time.”

“No relation I’m afraid, although I would be lying if I said that it didn’t prove useful on occasion.” She said with a warm smile, not at all phased by the outfit nor demeanor. It was a learning experience for the both of them, she was always learning to adjust herself to her clients needs. Oswald was quite formal and straight forwards, Edward preferred to know the goons more personally, Crane had preference with looks.
