Green Day played an indoor skate park in Grand Haven Michigan in the summer of 1990. I was 18 years old (wearing the fishing hat in the picture above), and I think this was Green Day's first tour. My friend Bob and I drove up to Michigan to see them, they were one of my favorite bands in 1990. They played in the middle of the halfpipe and there were less than 30 people there. When they started playing I jumped on the microphone Mike was using and sang 3 part harmony with Billie Joe and Mike. In 1990 I knew all of Green Day's songs by heart. They were so cool about it, they let me stay up there for most of the set. Amazing that any band would put up with someone actually doing that. But they were really nice guys. Aaron Cometbus from Crimpshrine and the Cometbus zine was their roadie and was as nice and gracious as Green Day. There are other photos from this day somewhere and I think there was video of their set, but it hasn't popped up yet. A few years later Mike stayed on my couch when he was playing bass on a Screeching Weasel record, and totally remembered this day.
