So you actually started out under Lindy Ruff. And it seemed to me that under Lindy Ruff in that, let’s call it, first season, I got the feeling that you were comfortable, that you were playing, scoring, and that everyone involved felt good about it, right?

Well, because they let me play. The team didn’t have anything at stake back then. We had a lot of injured players, and we were just doing what I think we should have been doing this year as well, once we knew we weren’t making the playoffs.

Luke and I were just playing our hearts out. As long as we could, we went out on the ice and just racked up a lot of ice time. And it worked out well for us back then, sure, we made some mistakes on defense, but on offense it was great.

With Luke, when we were down by one or two goals, we were just great together, because we were both pushing [the play] forward. But when those games were close or even when we were winning, sometimes we just couldn't seem to find each other.

It suited us better when we could just take risks and just go all out on the attack. And that would happen sometimes, we’d be down by a goal with 10 minutes left, so we’d go out on the ice together and just get the team fired up. We’d create a play just the two of us.
