Wasn't an easy decision, wasn't a clear cut decision either, we felt that something sort of needed to give.
You know, I met with Nemo a few weeks ago and man, he's a really great young man. And it was tough because I do think he's a- he was an important draft pick for us, and he's a good player, and a good kid.
I just think that when I talk to him, there was a lot of stuff reported about him asking for a trade, that was not true. I had a really candid conversation with him, and I think that when I heard him, I understood his position, which is just that he just wants a path. He wants a path to develop and a path to grow into the role he forsees for himself.
And I think he would've been fine having that here or elsewhere, we were candid about that. And he told me he was 50/50, I was kind of 50/50, there were a few different ways we could've gone.

I couldn't say more about Nico. Probably needs to be said that, let's be honest, if he had decided to just wait a year and become a free agent, could he have gotten considerably more money? Very possibly.
But, from the get-go it was obvious to me that that wasn't even a thought for him. He wants nothing more than to win as a Devil. He takes his captaincy extremely seriously. He wears everything here so personally. He wants to win so bad.
He made that decision [to re-sign]. And, not only am I grateful and have so much respect for him showing his loyalty to the Devils, the other thing is it sets a precedent. Look at what our captain is wanting to do to stay. To him, the thing that matters is being a Devil and winning here and staying with the Devils and that's the way I know I felt [...] so to get that from Nico, too, it's a great precedent to set.

funny you say that, i did do a top 5 nicojack moments 2 years ago but it's definitely due an update so!
this one happened a couple days after the last ask so it missed the cut but nico accidentally swearing in a national tv interview after the stadium series game and jack watching him with a massive smile in the background
every time nico has to bend over to talk to jack but especially when he pre-emptively assumes position so jack can use him as arm rest
jack casually fixing nico's jersey + messing with it (he contains multitudes) + the urge to just caress him with his bare hand on main
defending jack's honour from pld (hi nemo :() + "if somebody is going off at jack [...] you go in there"
their little low-five ritual as they walk out of the tunnel before games, usually over dawson because they like to inconvenience everyone around them <3
honourable mentions: jack just yapping at nico without pause even as nico's about to get off the bench, frankly obscene celly, "jack, the way he looks at nico [...] he just idolizes [him]", tapping the C :)
