So the infamous Youtube algorithm recommended this video (I noticed it cause it was the only video not related to Anime for some reason) and after watching it, all I can say is that this doesn’t even seem like parody or satire anymore...

So I’ve some across this little gem: an Australian politician (an absolute Karen) bragged about banning certain Anime and Manga titles, like Eromanga Sensei and Goblin Slayer, with the aim of ‘protecting children’ or whatever, you can read the full story below:

...there is just so much wrong with this. First of all, if she had a fucntioning brain (which is exceptionally rare for a Karen like her to have) she would have looked up any credible statistics website and saw if there was any validity to her claim that “sexualised” anime charatcers are the reasons for rape numbers and child exploitation. As a matter of fact, since she clearly lacks the brain capacity to do so, unsurprising for a Karen, imma do her a favour.

Oh, would you look at that, the ‘great evil of over-sexualisation’ that is Japan has some of the lowers crime rates potentially related to what Karen is claiming. Who would have thought? And that’s after 3 minutes of low-effort research on Google since I was lazy. She literally couldn’t do 3 minutes of Google searching to check if her claims were valid or not. And this is an Australian senator? GGWP Australia, you’ve done it again...

Also, what does this absolute Karen think is gonna happen? People are just gonna buy VPNs and pirate what they can’t read legally, then vote for someone who actually uses their brain. This will fix nothing. Maybe, just maybe, the problem doesn’t lie in manga and anime but in, oh, I don’t know, the culture and could be rooted in broader societal reasons?

Well, my position isn’t linear. 

One the one hand, I do agree that there is injustice going around in the world (especially in America) and that black people are still often the targets of racism and often end up at the bottom end of the stratification ladder. So saying “yo, the heck is going on?” is perfectly reasonable.

However...

As always, the most vocal minority of nutjobs have taken the reins and hijacked the movement, which is self-evident. For one thing, black people (and all people, regardless of skin colour, nationality, sex, etc.) can be racist, and the vocal nutjobs of the movement are trying to claim otherwise, which is absurd. Second of all, they lost my sympathy the moment they began looting and violently protesting; gonna be real here, a lot of BLM protesters don’t really care about the cause of the movement but just joined in to steal shit for free, and many a small business owner’s life has been ruined because of it. Way to go, assholes... Thirdly, yes, that cop that killed G. F. by suffocating him deserves to be punished, what he did was horrible, but don’t go around discriminating every cop (and behaving racist towards white cops) because of one moron. There are good cops and there are bad cops, and claiming that the whole US police force is racist because of a handful of actually racist cops is absurd and counterproductive; demand that the actual racist cops get weeded out! For fuck’s sake, it’s not even that hard...

(Just a word of advice, type it either as ‘anime’ or ‘Anime’; you don’t pluralise it with the suffix -s)

Underrated Anime? A few come to mind: Ergo Proxy, Nana, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (my bf recommended it to me and it was glorious from start to finish), Scrapped Princess, Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda, Zankyou no Terror, ... there are loads of Anime that I wish had more recognition, but I’m sort of glad they don’t; they have their own dedicated fandoms, which are people I can have a normal chat with.

Excuses. The word you’re looking for is excuses. It’s what those nutjobs use when they have no valid arguments, and what you’ve suggested is a perfect example.
