As I sit here enjoying my 5k celebration weekend, I think back to 2019, where I about 800 followers and very little interaction on my blog, save a few die-hard readers. Then I started writing for Henry Cavill and Geralt, and boom! It was like a floodgate opening. Hundreds of new followers within a few months, but still little in the way of interaction. So, what did I do? Sulked, pouted and complained how unfair it was that compared to the mega popular writers on the site, I virtually got nothing in return. This lead to me stepping back for a bit to have a think about things.

I then realised that if I wanted something bigger, I had to build it. So, quite simply, I did. And it was hard work! I blithely worked on the appearance of my blog, how much I engaged with my readers (and as a result, have made some truly lovely friends by opening myself up more!) got involved with promoting other writers within the fandoms in order to give back and be supportive to my fellow authors (and found some exquisitely gifted writers along the way to enjoy!) wrote and wrote and fucking wrote until 1am on a work night most nights (and still do!!) learned the tagging system, reblogged to promote myself and built up a masterlist.

And you know what? It worked. I finally had the blog I’d dreamed of. Sure, I’m still not as popular as some authors, who easily get 2,000+ notes on their posts relatively quickly and receive a lot more reader engagement, but I’m not mad. I’ve done my best and it’s brought me so much joy. It’s also brought negativity, as I learned that when you become popular on here, you are a target for negativity borne of others feeling threatened by you and envy stirring up out of competitiveness, or whatever their reasons are, but I take it in my stride. It isn’t nice to face, but in those instances I’ve always felt pity for such people, ultimately. The behaviour of a shit stirrer, negative anon, or someone attempting to tarnish a writer’s reputation is ultimately more reflective of them than it is the person they’re going after. Rise above them, show yourself to be the graceful one and you’ll always win. I see so many people suffer from these horrible anons and I’m telling you now, they just aren’t worth your worry at all, darlings.

I’ve also learned that it’s impossible to please everyone, and if you try, you’ll be setting yourself up to fail, so know your strengths and keep working on them. It isn’t easy, but it’s bloody worth it!

I still have so many moments of feeling utterly overwhelmed by how much my work has grown in popularity, and I’m truly humbled by the fact that I must be doing something right. If you guys could only see my little face as I watch you comment your enjoyment of my stories and reblog with enthusiasm! 🥹🥹🥹🥹 it still takes me by surprise.

So yes, that’s my story on tumblr. If you’re out there struggling right now for engagement, just keep on going. Keep working towards your goal and do not let yourself or anything else get in your way. If I can do it, so can you.

Life is hectic, we’re all busy, we all have things going on, so the fact you’ve made room in your life to enjoy something I’ve created, I honestly couldn’t appreciate you more 🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍 especially, but not limited to the following diligent people who are always so supportive of me.
