Growing up, people would ask, "what you wanna be when you grow up?". As a kid I always wanted to be a ball player or an architect, I loved building things and playing sports. As I got older my loves changed, and so did my body. HS took over and I was at my derms office every week for my skin issues. and every since I was about 12 or 13, I've always let that "what do you wanna be when you grow up?" question fill with answers of "I don't know". I don't know because I was a teen unsure of the future like every other kid, I don't know because college is coming soon, I don't know because life changed, but MOSTLY I don't know because of HS. living with this disease has taught me to live in today, because tomorrow is unknown. Will I have a flare up? Will I be able to do anything from said flare up? what job can I do? will I need surgery? will said surgery kill me? or will today be a good day? will today be normal? These are DAILY thoughts and questions of uncertainty I face, and yet as I get older and older all I hear from those closest to me and in my family is, "you need to start planning for your future, you're getting old, you're growing up, etc."   So as a stand at my computer flared up today, unable to sit in a chair because of said flare, and read my fellow HS groups post, and see a post titled: "A bit of a dark topic but.. Do any of you worry about getting so sick, septic. Or something going wrong during surgery that would result in your death?.." I am reminded that this is a hard road, that has literally shaped each and everyone living with HS's mindset. This is so much more than a physical disease. Remember that. I guess all I am trying to say is stop being so far in front of your life, cherish today and the moment you are in now, because it's about the journey not the road, and for some of us the road isn't lined with plans and a GPS you set out for it's course; some of us are lost on this road without even a map to guide us to the next exit. #fuckHS #hidradenitissuppurativa #hswarrior
