Remember how I wrote to you about my Unit 2 paper in English Writing? I described my analysis of Richard Stengel's essay, "A Time to Serve" based on my own experiences in life. I mentioned how growing up in our community gave me different values of what it meant to volunteer and how some of the statistics he presented in his essay were really shocking to me. Well, now that I'm looking into green energy and sustainability, I thought of some really cool ideas. In his essay, Stengel talks about creating plenty of volunteering based organizations that could offer incentives for the work some people do. I thought it would be really as part of this plan is to offer people incentives for volunteering their time or making changes in their life to save energy, do something sustainable, or anything else that makes a change and has a positive effect on the environment. It would kind of be an extension of the deposit on water bottles, but more large-scale. The purpose of Stengel's argument was to help the country recover economically, medically, and educationally. The purpose for this rendition of his ideas would be to help keep the earth sustainable and make American's live greener lives.
