I didn’t expect but I cried at the end (very heartbreaking, twice). Eugene Simonet is quite attractive in his type: a good and decent man, good teacher that is here to help others. His scars are not only on his face but also in his heart. He has an awful family story, and memories emerge when he has to face the same situation for people he loves. Kevin Spacey’s exploit in the movie is to make us forget his messed up face and find him beautiful, especially when Eugene becomes happy again in life and falls in love. Incredible how Kevin manages to changes his expression even withe theses burnings. Another very good point of the movie is that all other characters are very good played also. Arlen, Trevor of course, Jerry… great cast and direction. Not at all an « only for kids movie » as I thought at the beginning.

While I thank you for the compliment, I would argue that there isn’t anything brave or bold about being an anonymous blogger. I mean, no one knows who I am, and I can just block or ignore the hate ;)  Also, I couldn’t care less what anonymous people on the internet think of me. I would also like to add that I’m not heartbroken or delusional. While the speed at which Kevin’s career was unraveled was stunning and set me on my heels somewhat, I’d been aware of the rumors through the years, so that part of it wasn’t that shocking to me. This blog has been a fun pastime for me, and it’s allowed me to become very familiar with Kevin’s career and public adventures; but I have an entire real life aside from this and that’s my main focus. I think some other people have found it much more difficult to cope than I have. I know there are some fans who are in complete denial. That is certainly heartbreaking.

Kevin is a great talent, as well as a person who has contributed to this world in other positive ways, so that deserves recognition. I don’t find him a disgraceful person, although the behavior that lead to all of this certainly is. It’s not acceptable.

I do find Kevin himself to be brave in that he is confronting his own trauma and behavior; and is doing what he needs to do to become a better person. I find anyone willing to do that inspirational. It can be incredibly painful to look in the mirror and hate who you see, but fortunately, human beings are capable of change. I reject the idea that if someone has problems and issues in one aspect of their life then their entire life must condemned, labeled, and deemed unworthy of anything other than shame or hatred. If we have a broken leg, we fix it. If we have a tumor, we remove it. If we have an infection, we take antibiotics. We don’t just give up and wait to die. The same can be said of mental trauma and damage. It can be healed, if we are willing.
