Also small rant about my thought process and whatnot for those interested:

My main focus was to create as much contrast between these two pieces without making it seem like they existed as completely separate entities which….. whether I succeeded or not is up to you, personally idk 🤷‍♂️

I wanted them to have as many differences between setting, posing, expression, etc. As possible, while maintaining the same feeling of deep longing and connection via cravat and ribbon 😛

Whereas javert appears disdainful, grip tight around Valjean’s cravat, I wanted Valjean to appear relaxed, almost curious.

Also another thing I wanted to show but low-key does not appear is the fact that while Javert’s expression hints towards his affection for Valjean, Valjean’s expression hints towards a sense of wariness buttttt that low-key didn’t come off so ignore that 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

As for the painting frame, the main things I wanted to convey were: thistles for valjean at the top and chains/fleur de lis for javert, water-like symbol(???)/waves to represent their inherent connection with one another

Wanted the thistles to appear organised and refined, whereas the fleur de lis and chains appeared ragged and naturalistic to show how their nature can like…. Coexist. Idk
