Feeling like you don’t fit in this world is one of the primary causes of suffering. It is a sense of separateness. You are unique, which is both a blessing and a curse. Other people seem simple because it is hard to see the complexity of another person’s life. Plants seem simple, until you get to know their complexities. Leading an actual simple life often takes a lot of practice.

The common element in all of your interactions with other people is you. You are the person that you most need to be in harmony with. When you are in harmony with yourself, other people don’t seem so lacking. You may not feel a deep connection to everybody you meet, but you are deeply connected to them anyway. As you interact with people, try to be the simple one. Imagine that other people have unfathomable complexities that you can see when you look deeply into them and see beneath the surface.

Not everybody clicks with everybody else. The fact that you have a good friend whom you click with means that there are more people like you out there. Look into each person as you go and you will find the people who resonate with your way of being in the world.
