Bear with me while I take a historical detour to talk about American history, advocacy and what it means for us today.
New data on our social media consumption patterns from PEW. Headline is that Instagram is now at 50% usage by U.S. adults. But checkout the breakdown by age. We all knew TikTok skewed young while Facebook leans old. But how about the young age lean of X and Reddit? However, the biggest takeaway for me is YouTube's absolute dominance. It's the 800lb gorilla you can't ignore in your media planning. What trends jump out to you?

"What's your free prize?"
The question comes from one of my favorite marketing books, "Free Prize Inside: How to Make a Purple Cow," by Seth Godin.
The gist of Godin's point is that kids don't pick out their favorite sugary cereal based on its nutritional benefits - but instead by what "free prize" is advertised on the cereal box.
I was reminded of this marketing insight when I took my kids camping for Cub Scouts this weekend.
Everyone had a blast with archery, the ropes course, BB guns, etc.
BUT the real highlight of the weekend was roasting marshmallows and pounding s'mores around the campfire in the evening.
The camping trip was fun and all, but the kids were really motivated by the s'mores.
Marketing isn't that different, sure your features and services need to work - but what's the "free prize" that will excite and delight your customers? Find that and sell that first and foremost.
So... what's your free prize? Or do you just want a s'more?

Did all those hours playing games make me feel fulfilled? Did they make me feel as if I had made good decisions in my life? Yes—and no. At times, I found video games an entertainment experience as smart and satisfying as any novel or movie or television show I have ever absorbed. At other times, I have let go of my controller late at night, overcome by existential emptiness and the realization that I have, yet again, just spent the better part of a day engaged in an activity of no practical value to me or anyone else. I enjoy games, but not without some reservation.
