In the premiere of Something New's fifth season, award-winning songwriter Joel B. New sat down with comedy juggler Marcus Monroe. Dubbed “the rock star of jugglers” by the New York Press, Marcus Monroe combines innovative juggling with a high-energy original take, making him one of the most sought-after variety performers today. Marcus is the recipient of the prestigious Andy Kaufman Award, awarded once a year to a performer who exhibits an original and creative performance with the spirit and execution of Kaufman. His original one-man show, The Rise & Fall of Marcus Monroe, was presented at Ars Nova last month.

Produced by Lorenzo Wolff, Cabot Cove features a nine-member band with outrageous orchestrations by Scott Wasserman (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen) and a sublime vocal cameo by Lisa Howard (Drama Desk nominee for It Shoulda Been You, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). The extraordinary Cabot Cove band is comprised of Gillian Berkowitz on piano/organ, Justin Hofmann on percussion, Lloyd Kikoler on bass, Mike Pettry on guitar, Alan Wasserman on clarinet, Heather Martin Bixler and Yoojin Cho on violin, Arman Alpyspaev on viola, and Amber Ho on violoncello. This right here’s what I would call

After my Broadway au Carre concert in Paris, there was an open mic. And at the end of that, the late-night audience joined me in a rendition of one of my songs that made me feel like Jonathan Larson. Truly one of the best moments of my life. So far. Thank you, merci.

Joel will premiere a brand new song as part of Bill Coyne’s MuseMatch charitable concert series, on Sunday, June 18th at Feinstein’s / 54 Below. The song will be performed by Ciara Renee (Pippin, Hunchback of Notre Dame).

MuseMatch is a Musical Theater Blind Date Collaboration, where composers are paired with singers they don’t know and are asked to share their deepest, personal joys and fears; and make a song together. All for charity.
