The year is 1992. At a truck stop in the middle of nowhere, 53-year-old Clem Barker is doing his social studies homework. He steps out of his truck to get some candy and pizza rolls and Mountain Dew, and instead finds himself falling into a strange empty office building. “Dag nabbit,” he shouts, “reckon I musta noclipped into them there Backrooms like my favorite YouTubers all talk about. Now I’ll never get to see my mom or play Fortnite again.” He finds a note on the ground and reads it. It says: “I have been here for three days. I’m starving to death. I hope I don’t die. Maybe there’s a way out.” Clem walks into a doorway and now is in the Poolrooms. He finds another note on the ground and it says: “Help! A monster is clawing my eyes out! Ow! It hurts! Try following the red arrows and picking up all 10 cassette tapes for the good ending.” Clem has heard about cassette tapes before, an ancient form of media from before Spotify playlists…
