Algorithmic discrimination is important to acknowledge. It’s something I didn’t even know was a problem.  

interesting to see how tech influences interpersonal communication and socialization of how people interact with technology. 

An insightful article about the social effects that come with the rise of the tech industry. I think it’s good that big tech companies acknowledge the effect they are having on the housing crisis in silicon valley, but also giving the government billions to fix the housing crisis isn’t the most sustainable method to fix the issue.  

This is too cool. I actually really want it, but also using all that paper is bad for the environment. 

I think it’s interesting that Instagram is doing trials for getting rid of likes. Whenever they have a major change, especially in design, they have received a lot of backlash in the past. I like how they’re slowing gathering data on audience reception. 

There are smart carts in Canada. Customers seem to be fairly satisfied with the services this tech provides. It’s interesting seeing how this could possibly affect employment and wages.   

This is a clear example of how tech is influencing and challenging existing societal structures. If left unquestioned, tech could have the power to alter democracy or at least the meaning of it.  

As tech companies grow larger and larger, it is important to be aware of and acknowledge those who helped build it. Many tech workers especially immigrant workers are not provided proper working conditions or compensation. Often times, the technologies they helped make and distribute are the same ones being using against them. 

Since digital tech is fairly new and is growing exponentially, it’s interesting to see the discourse of figuring out what is ethical and how tech companies choose to practice it.  

Despite retail’s failure to provide banking services, tech companies have decided to venture into banking territory. Banking services could bring up several dilemmas regarding financial privacy and security.    

While this seems super cool, I’m interested in seeing the extent to which it affects the doctor-patient relationship. I think tech in the medical field could be super useful in tracking a patient's health history, but I now see how using a robot to pack pills could make a significant difference in the medical field. 

the trajectory of these tech trends seems to be based on what businesses need to increase productivity and efficiency. It also seems to be influenced by the trends that are popularized by users.

Something to also consider when discussing technology is the impacts it has or could have on the environment. Considering the cost (pertaining to environmental effects) of technology makes those creating technologies and those using them more conscious of the long term environmental effects of decisions. 

“We are feeding machines with information every day, and the information we choose to provide says a lot about who we are — our racism, our values, our strengths, our weaknesses.” Interesting take on diversity in technology. There is an importance in considering different perspectives and access when it comes to creating and developing technology. This article does a good job of summing it up.   

It’s crazy to see how the smallest details in design could cause the biggest critiques and conversations. Google’s facial recognition flaw on the Pixel 4 is a clear example of gaps in design that could be missed. 

“Evolution is driven by random mutation — mistakes, not plans.“ Really interesting article about the ethics of tech companies and the values they possess. The analysis says a lot about the mistakes that could be made in the rapid unchecked progression of tech. 

The popularization of TikTok is raising several security concerns withing US users. It’s interesting to see how the location of their servers has a big effect on how data is used and managed.
