In this latest iteration of the Intermediate Digital Photography (Art 242) âface mergingâ project students were introduced to the work âHumanaeâ by Angelica Dass. In it Dass explores the relationship we have to color and how we use it in such a limited way. Through the sampling of pixels on the subjectâs nose she assigns them a Pantone color. Pantones are a standardization method for color in the graphics industry. They exist beyond limited language of black, white, and brown. Pantoneâs use descriptive language such as Pantone 487c or Pantone 7567c. All kidding aside, it was important for students to see just how closely related the colors are. After organizing them in Pantone color order, they were asked to then merge their portrait with that of their neighbors. The end photograph was then merged with the first photograph, completing the circle.
