He shot forward, clasping my cheeks. “Say it again.” “Say what?” I replied, gripping his wrists. “I said a lot of things. Help me out here.” “Say that I’m not just the Apollyon,” he whispered, his voice harsh. Tears built in my throat. “You’re not just the Apollyon, Seth.”

“You’ve got walls up. I get it. Can even understand why you would, and I bet that’s why you haven’t had a single damn serious relationship in the last ten years. And I can get that too. I understand.” He guided my head toward him, stopping when I felt his breath against my lips. “But I’m not some random guy you just met. I’m not someone who doesn’t know that what’s at the core of you is worth working at, breaking through those walls for.” Oh my god. “People don’t get second chances often, Sasha, but we got one, and I’m not going to let that pass us by.”

“More books.“ His eyes went wide. "You have, like, ten books you just said you haven’t read.” “Doesn’t mean I won’t get more books.” I smiled at is incredulous expression. “I haven’t been able to read a lot lately, but I will, and then I won’t be out of anything new to read.”

Loving him didn’t mean I wasn’t disappointed in his choices — that those choices hadn’t hurt me. Loving him didn’t mean he could keep making those choices and I would keep forgiving him. Loving him meant that I knew from the first moment that I fell for Seth that he was complicated — that loving him wouldn’t be easy. Loving him … Well, it meant that I was willing to fight for him. And loving him meant he had to be willing to fight for me.

“Well, to be honest, I was planning to woo you with my banana nut bread, but that shit ain’t happening now. So all I have left is my delicious eggs.” … “It’s really good, but you’re not wooing me.” “Oh, I’m wooing … It’s all about the stealth. You don’t realize it yet.”
