The use of the Hans Christian Andersen quote “But a mermaid has no tears, and therefore she suffers so much more” for The Little Mermaid (2023) was genius. We see Ariel through out the movie close to crying/tears but she never does, the first and only time we see her shed a tear is at the very end when she says goodbye to her father and her people, and it was a tear of joy. And it symbolizes how she has become human.
More Ariel and Melody! <3
Little Mermaids at the Laundromat
I saw a lot of other artists drawing both versions of Ariel and I thought it looked like fun. So, I made some funky, silly art with bright colors. TBH, The Little Mermaid was never my favorite story, but the aesthetic of the 1989 was really gorgeous. I’m excited to see all the new designs and art in the new film with Halle Bailey.
Ariel and Melody 💖
I love them

I finally got to see The Little Mermaid because it came out on Disney+ today. I knew I was gonna love it but the amount of times I cried…Like I couldn’t stop smiling either. It’s The Little Mermaid I know and love with some changes/additions that honestly help move the story along and even expand upon some things. The transitions were 👩🏾🍳💋 and so was the score. Like oh my god. There’s so much I want to say but I also need to process this. Halle and Jonah had unbelievable chemistry and they were so cute together. I really hope we get a sequel and get to see them both doing the thing they love as a married couple. 🥹🥹🥹
Coming back to this. SPOILERS!!!
Triton calling Ariel his little one had me about to cry.
Sebastian was hilarious. “I’m an educated crab. I got options!” 😭
Flounder was adorable as always. I just wish we got to see him more but I’m not at all mad with the finished product.
Scuttle was more entertaining than I thought she would be.
I NEED MORE OF ARIEL AND HER SISTERS
Halle’s acting was on point. Like oh my god 🙌🏾
Jonah was stunning as well
How Ariel told Eric her name??? “It’s beautiful. Written in the stars.” GOD WHEN IS IT MY TURN?!
MELISSA!!! I knew you were gonna eat but you devoured that role! 😫🙌🏾
Adding Eric’s mom instead of him just existing on the island is 👩🏾🍳💋. Noma was amazing.
Eric’s relationship with his people 🥺
Grimsby was a real one!
Ursula making it so Ariel didn’t remember she had to get a kiss from Eric…EEEEEVVVIIIILLLLL
The dance scene in the village 🥹
Ariel looking distraught at the coconut cuz Scuttle told her humans hate them 😭
Scuttlebutt is a bop and I will accept no slander (it’s for the kiddies tho so it’s fine)
I’m not mad about the dresses. Loved them. I just wish they did more styles with Ariel’s hair. You can see little sea shells in her locs from time to time when she’s on land but I needed more 😫
Giant Ursula had gills on her face and that made her even scarier
Ariel steering not only the ship but also the carriage because she watched Eric do it and simply copied his movements. We love an observant and quick learner.
I loved how when after Ariel saved Eric she gushed over seeing the fireworks and the ship first. The movie constantly showed that her main goal was to be on the surface and Eric just so happened to be another part of the surface.
Eric and Ariel looking through Eric’s “grotto” and them looking at maps 🥹🥹🥹
Under The Sea always has been and always will be a bop. The fact that they got the Alvin Ailey company to do the choreography??? Exquisite.
Sebastian’s accent wasn’t that bad, to me, but I shall leave that up to my Jamaican/Caribbean cousins
Javier wasn’t bad as Triton either. I liked that he was still strict and he did get angry but it was less him yelling and more him being very firm. Love that.
Halle ate every single song. Are we surprised?
Jessica as Vanessa was freaking insane. Like she did that.
TIME MAY CHANGE THE SHORELINE BUT TIME WILL NOT CHANGE MEEEEE
Like y’all don’t understand. I wasn’t able to gush over the movie when it came out cuz I wasn’t able to go to the theater. This has made it up there with my other comfort movies, Princess and the Frog, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Lion King, and this will be my personality for the rest of my life.
