Latest Release! "The Case of the Brazen Burglar" ~ a Drew Diamond Mystery. Available on Amazon.
I spotted trouble the moment Mark Dunfield walked into my office. He said heâd been robbed. It was a simple burglary. It turned out to be anything but simple.
My name is Drew Diamond; Iâm a private investigator. Iâm the guy people turn to when they have a problem. And Mark Dunfield had a doosie
Something had been stolen from Mr. Dunfield. Something that could put him behind bars for a long time if he didnât get it back.
In my profession, I sometimes find myself walking a thin line between being on the right side and the wrong side of the law.
This was one of those times.
If I wasnât careful, I could end up behind bars myself, or worse, dead. I donât look good in stripes, and nobody looks good dead.Â
                                                ~ Drew Diamond
Do you have a favorite Femme Fatale from 1940s movies?
Perhaps you were intrigued by the title, âForbidden - The Books They Donât Want You to Read,â and may be wondering â who are they? They are private individuals, government agencies, and organizations that take it upon themselves to decide what you should and should not be allowed to read. Wait! What was that?... Let me repeat that. They are private individuals, government agencies, and organizations that take it upon themselves to decide for you what you should and should not be allowed to read.
You are probably thinking, Can they do that? This is a free country. I can read whatever I choose to read. That may be true to some extent, but nevertheless, they have been censoring books since the printed word first arrived in the hands of readers.
Book banning is the most widespread form of censorship in the United States.
With our passive nature of remaining silent while our rights to freedom of speech are being attacked all around us in the form of reader censorship, we must ask ourselvesâŚare we heading toward a society created in the novel, 1984, by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury?
The answer is too frightening to imagine.

The Case of the Hired Hitman Blurb:
Jane Waverly made a huge mistake. She thought her husband of five years was cheating on her, so what did she do? She hired a hitman to âtake care of him.â
The problem is, she may have been wrong. Now, her bigger problem is, how does she cancel the hit? Everything had been done anonymously with no personal contact between Jane and hired killer â a man sheâd never met and whom she didnât even have his name or a way to contact him.
In her desperation, she turns to Private Detective Drew Diamond. Will he be able to stop the hit before itâs too late? Time is running out, and Drew finds himself not only sweating bullets but dodging them too, in The Case of the Hired Hitman.Â
I'm just an old guy, enjoying retirement and now able to pursue my dream of being a full-time author.
The problem people of my age face is that we don't have years to wait to be discovered. We have fewer years ahead of us, than behind us.
Getting an agent, an editor, and that much sought-after book deal from a big publisher face great obstacles. Namely time. We know time is running out for us. We wish we'd started on our dream path much earlier in life, but circumstances prevented that - raising a family, work, fear of failing, the list is endless.
So, what's a senior citizen do, now that time is short?
We try social media such as Facebook, Tumblr, X, TicToc, etc. Yes, I know, social media can be difficult for senior citizens. But here we are. Searching for readers, following other authors' advice on how to get readers, letting our friends know we're now writers. (b.t.w. friends at our age are fewer in numbers than when we were younger.) They're dying off. And not all of us are social butterflies.
We aren't asking to become rich and famous. We just want a little recognition for our dreams.
Followers are very difficult to attain. You can't really follow me on "my chart."
I've written some nine or ten novels, a couple of non-fiction works, and some dreadful poetry. I'm asking you to just check out my website. Who knows, maybe you'll see something that sparks your interest. If not, at least you gave it a shot. And I thank you for it.

This book is banned by many schools here in America. What a shame. And shame on those who ban it.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Letâs face it, there are tons of videos, blogs, vlogs, articles, social media influencers, and people whoâll tell you how to become a best-selling author. You just have to pay for whatever theyâre selling.
That isnât what Iâm doing here. I want to tell you what not to do if you want to self-publish a book. Yes, you can still become a best-selling author by self-publishing. Here are a few examples:
Many famous authors have self-published their work, including:
Andy Weir
Self-published The Martian in serialized format on his website, which went on to become a Hollywood blockbusterÂ
E. L. James
Self-published Fifty Shades of Grey, which was later acquired by a traditional publisherÂ
Rupi Kaur
A Canadian poet with Indian roots, Kaur's three books have all been on the NYT Bestseller listÂ
Beatrix Potter
Faced gender discrimination as a female author in the early 1900s, and self-published 250 copies of The Tale of Peter Rabbit after being rejected by traditional publishersÂ
Amanda Hocking
Writes in a variety of genres, including magic, romance, mystery, and paranormal romanceÂ
Hugh Howey
Self-published Wool, a New York Times best-selling science fiction novel, in eBook format through Kindle Direct PublishingÂ
L.J. Ross
Created an autonomous literary empire, best known for the DCI Ryan mystery seriesÂ
Margaret Atwood
Self-published her award-winning book of poems Double Persephone at the age of 20Â
First of all, of course, you have to write a book. Go ahead and do that.
Now, Iâll tell you what I did when I first began writing. I started out writing poetry. I wrote a LOT of poetry. The more I wrote, the better I thought I was as a poet. I was always online reading the poetry of other so-called â poets. Advice thatâs often given to new writers isâŚread tons of whatever you want to write. It makes sense. The more you read, the more you understand the craft of writing. So I did that. I read so much poetry. I also read poetry of well-known poets â Sylvia Plath, Nikki Geovani, Ted Hughes, Billy Collins, and all of the classic poets from the past.
After a few years of reading and writing poetry, I decided I could be a published poet. I was as good as any other poetâŚor so I thought. So, I sent off a few of my poems to publishers who published works of poetry. I received several rejections. I couldnât understand why.
So, I started looking into self-publishing my poems. I found a publisher â Lulu.com and read everything about them. I saw how easy it was to self-publish a book. The cost was minimal, the process was simple, bada-bing-bada-boomâŚI did it!  I wrote the poems, designed the cover, and formatted the book, I did everything.
I published my first book! I was so excited. My book â âChasing Emilyâ was now online for people to flock to and buy. So, I waitedâŚ.and waitedâŚand waited for the sales to rack up.
Nothing happened. I told my friends and family about my book. Again, no sales. I started giving away copies to friends and family. The only sales I was making were from purchasing author copies of my book myself.
After a few years, I gave up trying to sell poetry. I decided there was no market for poems, and no one reads poetry. (Not true by the way.)
I decided that maybe I should be writing novels instead of poetry.
Once again, I followed the same procedure Iâd followed with my poetry. I wrote a novel, formatted it for publication, designed the cover, and put it out there.
Nothing happened. What was I doing wrong? The answer I would discover several years later, wasâŚEverything. I was doing everything wrong.
Let me say here, that âfriends and familyâ are not your readers. Your friends and family all expect you to give them a free copy of your book. You donât make anything from giving away free copies.
Knowing thatâŚyou have to shift your thinking to ⌠who are my readers? Who reads the kind of books Iâm writing? How can they find me among the tens of thousands of authors that are out there?
Follow me and Iâll show you how not to publish your books. Â And I wonât charge you a dime. Iâm not selling this, Iâm here to help you avoid the pitfalls I fell into. Iâll tell you about my novels in the next blog post.
Oh, and by the way, that first book I published â âChasing Emilyâ, itâs full of very bad poetry. Itâs crap. Donât look for it and definitely donât buy it.
