Jennifer Fager - Final presentation - Minor Textiles 2020
Final edited images
Final GIF
Really happy with the end result and that my plan worked out! This turnable GIF gives the project both a more playful and modern addition.
Process of final collection images
I am very happy that my idea to photoshop the garment onto my model worked!! It really looks super cool and playful, just as I wanted.

Sneekpeaks of original photoshoot
Here are a few unedited images from the photoshoot I had with my niece. The dress fit her perfectly and look super cool! Tomorrow I will have the next photoshoot with my friend where I will take images in the same angels as I did with my niece.
Waste from all four panels
One of the reasons I chose to do direct patterns on the looms (DPOL) is because of how little waste it produces. From all four panels, this is how little yarn I wasted and that is only because they were too long after finsihing it off on the backside.
All four finsihed panels
Due to how long it takes do make each piece, I chose to not make any sleeves for the dress. I was a bit concerned it would look less dynamic but I am really happy with how it looks without the sleeves!
Looms for the back panels
When making the front panels I noticed it was much harder to weave when the looms were whole, therefor for the back panels I cut out the inner parts of the loom which helped a lot! This made it much easier to weave as the warp yarns are not as tense.
Design development of the front piecesÂ
I really love how the pieces are turning out! Especially the foamy parts and finger details.

Looms of the front panels
Colouring foam with textile paint
Collected some more mattress foam to dye for the final design. I chose to make all of them in pink and thinner red ones. When I coloured the previous foam parts I painted the whole piece and then cut them into strips, however when doing so the edges of the foam wasn’t coloured. Therefor, this time I chose to cut the foam first and then colour them so that all sides are dyed. A great decision as it will be a lot nicer and easier to work with since it doesn't matter which side is up.
First fitting - pattern paper
I am very happy with the overall fit, especially considering this is the first time I made patterns for a child.
Both the front and back panel will be cut around the waste and made in to 4 separate weaving looms.
Feedback from Marco & Calvin
After speaking to my teachers they told me I don’t necessarily have to do a full size sample since it will take a lot of time to weave. Instead I can do a small version just to show how it would look. This gave me an idea - I am going to make my garment in a child size (for my 8 year old niece) then I will take lots of picture of her from various angels. After that I will have a photoshoot outside with a friend where I take pictures of her in the sample angels as my niece. In this way I can later on Photoshop the dress on my friend instead of my niece and make a small image sequence GIF when she’s rotating.
Design ideas
Made two variations of the design. I definitely prefer the right one since it isn’t as organized as the left one and it has a more weird expressive look that I love. Hopefully I will have time to make all panels, if not I think it will also look nice without the sleeves.

First design ideas
Started sketching my idea for the final garment in Illustrator and this is what I came up with. I want the dress to be a bit oversized, have a relaxed feel and simply just be a plain canvas for the dynamix textile to speak for itself.
Fabric development - merging two samples + making a pocket
I wantad to try merging two samples as well as making a pocket in the middle of the weaving so I did this clean and natural white sample which I later merged together with my previous colourful and exprerssive sample. It really turned out so good and has a perfect balance between natural, graphic and weirdness.
