𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙱𝙴𝙶𝙸𝙽𝙽𝙸𝙽𝙶 ;
born to a young teenage mother who didn’t want the reminder of another’s cruelty, jevaun was left with the sisters at a nearby orphanage.
by six, he’s convinced that adoption was never going to be something experienced in his future. at least, not in an official sense, but that did little to bother the boy. given his soft and kindhearted nature, many of the neighborhood grannies had taken to him almost as much as he had them. he wasn’t sure he’d be happy elsewhere.
at nine, a new sister joins the ranks and the pair soon become inseparable. considering where he’d grown up, jevaun hadn’t had any reason to miss something he’d never experienced, but sister femi quickly became a mother figure, further solidifying his desire to stay right where he was.
by thirteen, he’s taken on the role as both the orphanage’s big brother & shared therapist. both things being something he took seriously and it’s the latter ( plus a conversation with sister femi ) that first got him interested in psychology as a field and potential career choice.
at eighteen, he graduates high school and is no longer considered a ward of the state. it’s bittersweet, but before he’s kicked out onto the streets, it’s agreed that he’d take on the role of caregiver for those of those said neighborhood grannies he grew up with. she had no other family herself and when the opportunity was offered, thanks to the help of sister femi, he jumped on it.
by twenty-two, the grandmother who had taken him into her home succumbs to her age, leaving everything behind to the boy who cared for her. it’s not much ( but more than enough if you ask him ), but he’s still got a roof over his head and enough money to take care of himself. this is the time he rejoins the orphanage, but as a volunteer. he works alongside sister femi, helping the children acclimate to life within the home.
by twenty-four, jevaun’s birth mother enters the picture. it’s a difficult reunion, made even more so by her desire and expectation to suddenly take her rightful place as his mother. as far as he was concerned, that spot was already occupied. this caused some tension between the pair, and now his quiet life became filled with volatile arguments. eventually, he concedes, doing only the bare minimum to make his birth mother happy.
at twenty-six, sister femi is the victim of a violent attack to which he’s a witness to. jamaica has been one of the most violent countries within the caribbean for as long as he can remember, but nothing had ever touched anywhere near home before. it devastates him and, soon, without having the pillar of strength in his life along with carrying survivor’s guilt, jevaun quickly crumbles.
at twenty-seven, after a year of therapy and support groups, he finally decides now is the time to make good on his promise to the woman who had served as his mother figure and joins the interchange programme, much to his birth mother’s dismay.
𝙱𝙴𝙷𝙸𝙽𝙳 𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝙼𝙰𝚂𝙺 ;
wholesome. despite having some bad habits, he’s a wonderful influence. does he ever actually do any influencing, who knows! doesn’t change the fact that he’s good at it, though.
tolerant. very accepting of just about anything and everything regardless of his own personal beliefs. will discuss those differences happily, but is certainly not the type to argue them. he’s also someone who will let anyone do just about whatever they want to him & it won’t faze him much at all.
nosy. i considered this one of his more negative traits because he often has the tendency to pry because when he notices something, he brings attention to it because he wishes to understand it and this can be awfully annoying, especially considering i see him being the type to catch people in vulnerable moments by accident.
gossipy. i know this word kinda paints a specific picture when it’s used, but that picture isn’t quite what i imagine, i’m just unsure how else to describe it? i mean, he does keep an ear to the ground and likes to ask other’s what their stance is on certain things he’s heard, but he isn’t the type to spread things he’s heard as gospel or say anything that was told to him in confidence. obviously, he’s very good at being tight lipped and keeping secrets when necessary.
𝙰𝙳𝙳𝙸𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽𝙰𝙻 𝚃𝙸𝙳𝙱𝙸𝚃𝚂 ;
inspiration. lol i’m sure there’s some here, i just don’t know who or what besides maybe daniel’s character from all american ( spencer james ) ??? and facets of my own personality / imagination??? once i flesh him out a bit more, i’ll probably be able to say with more certainty.
major. abnormal psychology. for those who might be wondering what that is, it’s psychology that typical deals with things in a clinical context and focuses heavily on the behaviors, emotions, and thoughts of others .. obviously in relation to mental disorders. he wishes to return to work with children who are within the foster care system.
still working on fleshing him out & i’m becoming lazybones, so that’s all i’ve got. just know he’s a big puppy who wants to help literally everyone, but tries to do so without forcing himself onto people ( aka if you want his help, you need to ask for it ). anyway love us thx.
