I thought this article would be a great springboard for the ongoing tiny house conversation Jeremy and I are having. I’m posting my answers here because many of you expressed curiosity about this craziness. :) I also had Jeremy answer the questions and I’ll post them tomorrow!

How much time do you spend at home? During the week, not a lot. Working 40ish hours + gym & errands, I’m usually home just enough to eat, shower and sleep. On the weekends I’m much more of a homebody/couch potato and have been known to stay in the basement for 10 straight hours. haha 

How well do you share space? I think well? You’d have to ask Jeremy I guess. I’m not a closet hog or neat freak so him being “in my space” isn’t an issue!

Are you prepared to spend more of your life outside? (And what’s the weather like where you intend to live?) I WANT to spend more time outside! If we do this tiny house thing, it will be in Colorado. It’s hard to get me inside when we take trips there…I’m always wandering to the closest outdoor space to take in the scenery and mountain air. I absolutely love it and miss it like “home” even though I’ve lived in Kansas my whole life. Obviously in Winter months it won’t be as desirable. I’ll probably gain 30 pounds from baking and looking out the window while I eat. ;)

What are your hobbies? My only real hobby at the moment is Zumba. For years I’ve enjoyed paper crafting & scrapbooking but my supplies and desk became buried under mountains of clutter so that killed any desires I had to work on it. I could see me getting back into it on a much, much, MUCH smaller scale. Maybe even digitally! Of course if we lived in Colorado, I would want to hike constantly and be 110% more outdoorsy than I am here.

What is your attitude about stuff? Currently transitioning. I’ve never been a big shopper, but I’ve definitely had the attitude of “you can never have too many!” I’m also learning to let go of stuff without guilt. The only things I would really have trouble parting with are photos and scrapbooks.

Is there anything you collect? I’ve collected a lot of things over the years. Sylvester stuff, smiley faces, tigers, penguins and most recently foxes and globes. I’ve let most of those older collections go and wouldn’t be opposed to getting rid of most of the foxes and globes.

How long do you want to live in your tiny house? If it is designed the way we want it and placed in a beautiful location, I don’t see why we couldn’t live there indefinitely. I also like the idea of someday, if we needed more space, building a slightly larger home on the same property and then renting out the tiny house. Thus giving someone else the tiny home experience! I think that would be cool. 

What do you think your family will look like in the next five years? Me’n’Jeremy and the boys.

Do you have pets? Yes and we will always, always have small dogs in our home, no doubt about it.

Have you lived in small spaces before (dorm room, studio apartment)?  What did you not like about it? I honestly haven’t. Not that small anyway. The smallest space I’ve lived in was the apartment Jeremy and I had our first year of marriage. 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths. I loved it and had it been on the ground floor with a yard, we might have stayed there a lot longer! 

How often do you entertain or have guests? Not as often as we would if the house remained tidy. ;) I’d like to have couples over for game nights more, but we are not elaborate dinner party kind of people.
