After Effie is acquired, Kanan takes about two hours to go from "I'm not really a huge fan of infants" to "...I think I want to be a dad"

When Effie first calls Ezra "DADA", he's mortified and tries to get her to stop because "I'M SIXTEEN, I'M TOO YOUNG TO BE A DAD". Then Sabine agrees with him and says that "yeah, you're way too immature and irresponsible to be a parent!" and Ezra responds by Fully Embracing The Dad Role out of sheer petty spite.

IDK if I mentioned this before, but, on the topic of names: Ahsoka is "So" and Rex is "Ess". Commander Sato, when he appears on the scene, becomes "Toto."

Sabine eventually gets Effie to stop calling her BEEP; instead, Effie calls her Awbey. It's a smushed-together form of "Aunt Bine". (Sabine decided to, 1: not give Ezra any potential encouragement by shooting for Mom status, and 2: maybe make a point with the Aunt thing. At this point, Ezra is too distracted by Being A Dad to get the hint. But, he's also too distracted to make any annoying jokes anymore. So... task failed successfully?)

When Kanan and Ezra and Ahsoka leave for Malachor, Effie is inconsolable. She won't stop asking for Dada and Nana. She senses their return through the Force when they come back.

Ezra has the Sith holocron for all of two days before Effie gets her sticky baby fingers on it and starts chomping. Holocrons are strong enough to withstand many things, but they're not meant to be teething toys. Ezra finds the holocron oozing baby spit from the corners, and the internal works are fried. (Problem solved!)

Effie is the unofficial mascot of Chopper Base

There's several different arguments re: her parentage. Some people say that she's Kanan's daughter from a previous relationship. Some of them think she's a Kanera kid who just takes after Kanan. (Both groups assume "Dada" is her just mispronouncing "Ezra".) Another group posits that Ezra is her biological father, with warring subdivisions on how Sabine fits into the picture. A small but vocal faction insists that everyone is being ridiculous and that Effie's clearly adopted. (They are largely ignored.)

Sometimes, when Hera and Effie both can't sleep, Hera brings her up into the Phantom and lets Effie sit on her lap and pretend to fly the ship.

Effie's sleeping arrangements were a source of difficulty for quite a while. Given her attachment to Ezra, it made sense that her crib would go in his room, but then she started smelling like Lasat and nobody liked that. Sabine pointed out that there was room in her room, but her room wasn't nearly childproofed enough. So they stuck Effie's crib in Kanan's room, which, again, worked for a while, until Malachor, and Kanan started worrying that he shouldn't be taking care of a three-year-old on his own overnight, with his loss of sight. It ended with Ezra moving into Kanan's room to help with Effie. An unexpected consequence of this was that their relationship didn't fall apart nearly as much as in canon.

One day, Effie unexpectedly switches from calling Zeb "Beh" to calling him "Gabbadebba Lellyos." No one knows how she learned his full name, but that's all she calls him from that point out. It's just her thing. Zeb haaates it, but karabast, she's so adorable--

As Effie grows up, she kinda keeps her little names for the crew, but adds on their real names--"Amma Hera" and "Nana Kanan", specifically. It's like a kind of parent/grandparent name for them. But she calls Sabine "Aunt Bine," which Sabine encouraged, until she's eight or nine, which is when Sabine legally adopts her.

Yes, Effie's a Mandalorian Jedi. Yes, she's "descended" (adoption counts!!) from Tarre Vizsla. Yes, a case could be made that she's his true heir. NO, SHE WILL NOT BE INHERITING THE DARKSABER. (Keep Sabine's kid out of this Mandalorian political crap!)

Well it depends on what you count as "questions..."

Just in general? Instantly. Ursa has a GRAND-DAUGHTER (kind of?? it's unclear if Sabine has officially adopted her or not but either way Sabine has definitely admitted to being the maternal influence in Effie's life so it counts) and she's INTRIGUED.

So, yeah, she asks a lot of questions right away, but it's just questions about the baby. She wants to know about Effie---how old is she, what's she like, does she have Jedi powers, is Sabine intending on getting her armor when she turns 13---questions like that.

(Honestly, Ursa doesn't really bat an eye at the idea of "platonic co-parenting" because it's more common on Mandalore. She's, at most, a little suspicious. Or maybe "suspicious" isn't the right term. She doesn't see any proof one way or the other; she only interacted with Ezra for less than a day so she hasn't seen enough of him to understand his relationship with Sabine. They could be hiding a relationship.... but really, Ursa's pretty confident that Sabine would certainly never ever get involved with a Jedi.)

What actually makes her start asking questions is when she overhears one of Sabine's cousins asking Sabine, "soooo... that cute guy who came here with you---", and Sabine interrupts with "HE'S NOT AVAILABLE."

"Do you realize how tragic it would be for Ezra to have to leave behind his kid" well yeah obviously I realized that, it's---

In fact, Sabine just happens to mention her pretty much as soon as they return to Krownest, as part of a strategic ploy. like...

Sabine: [says something to Ezra about "your daughter"] Wrens, intrigued: ????? Sabine, casually: Oh yeah, I forgot you didn't know. He has a daughter. Ezra, panicking, lest her relatives make Assumptions: Adopted! Adopted daughter. Effie's adopted. Wrens, even more intrigued: ????? Sabine: It's a cool story, actually. He was just 16 years old when he and Kanan risked their lives to rescue three babies from Imperial Inquisitors, who had captured them to corrupt and torture them into the Dark Side. One of them had no family, so we took her in as part of ours. Ezra (mortified, because Since When Does Sabine Hype Him Up???): omg sabine stop it you're embarrassing me!!! Sabine, whispering back: no trust me bro Sabine: I say "we" took her in, but really, it was Ezra. Sure, Kanan's her dad, too, in a way, and I like to think I'm her mother figure, but Effie's first word was calling Ezra "Dada." She may not be his blood, but she's definitely his daughter. And she's the cutest little thing I've ever met. Wrens: Wrens: we would like to see the baby

(They have an unexpectedly easy time recruiting the Wrens. This may or may not have something to do with the half hour Ezra spent showing everyone all the holopics he has of baby Effie.)
