“you know–” She started, pulling out yet another cigarette even though she had just finished the first. “People just can’t be happy for someone like me. Why the fuck not? Because I don’t wear my fucking wounds on my sleeve? Jesus fucking christ! A woman can’t catch a fucking break in this stupid fucking school.”

Jesse frowned when she started snapping again and he plucked the cigarette away from her fingers and shook his head. “Lia, they’re just jealous. Look at you. You’re confident, and have a great boyfriend and have some pretty amazing friends, if I say so myself, and enough people love you to vote for you.” He reassured. “You can’t listen to the assholes that want to drag you down. If you did that in the first place, you would have never gotten to where you are.”

“What do you mean everyone? If these weirdos are so upset that I won, why did they vote for me?”

“Because you’re amazing and people are just jealous.” Jesse said as he plopped down next to the girl. “You’re the Queen of Plath. That’s never gonna change no matter how many people complain.”

“Oh c’mon Jesse bear, you know you want to a hit. You need from the weekend you had.” Ivy taunted, blowing out the smoke of the weed she bought off her dealer. Looking at the joint in her hands, normally she would rather smoke out of a bong since it got her high faster and harder but a joint had to do since she didn’t have a bong or a pipe. Breathing out into the cold air, she moved her feet on the snow, hearing it crunch against the weight. “Something about winter is always nice, I mean the snow makes you feel like you’re in a winter wonderland huh? Or a snow globe.” 

Jesse sighed and nodded, holding his hand out for the blunt and waiting to take a hit. Normally Jesse’d be all for it but for some reason he just couldn’t bring himself to do anything lately. Maybe it was because he was convincing himself that he needed to feel the guilt because he deserved it. Either way, Ivy was right. Jesse needed to forget and move past until he was in a place to resolve things. “Yeah, I love the snow. I grew up in an area that wasn’t surrounded by neighbors and we always did so much outside in it. Lot’s of good memories.” He said and looked down at it. “There a lot of snow for you back home?”

“We have established this many a time, nonnie. I’m an idiot…okay? Thanks for the reminder. But uh kind of hot? No. I’m drop dead gorgeous.”

Yeah, tell me something I don’t know. I get angry easily and I’ve been trying really hard to change that. Can’t cure cancer in a day though.

Whoever you are, I love you too. I know I’m an idiot though, you don’t need to tell me twice.

“Yeah, do you want to tell me something I haven’t realized already? I knew I was an asshole to him, since I met him. He was the idiot that made me start to change and then decided to hurt me.”

“Did you say something to upset him or start fighting at a dance of all places. People are going to be bothering the both of you on what’s happening you know.” She pointed out, adjusting the dress that kept rising up in her mid section. “You just want to get out of here don’t you?” Ivy laughed, pretending to bow in front of him. “Why thank you King of the Formal. I feel so blessed to be in your presence.”

“Oh Jess,” Ivy trailed off, her hand going onto his shoulder, giving it a light squeeze. “No matter what he will cry over you, even if he hates you.” Quietly tapping her foot, she shrugged her shoulders in response. “I don’t know, I’m really not in the partying mood. But congrats, I told you so King Jess.”

Hearing him explain the situation sounded like two toddlers blaming each other about who started it. Ivy let out a sigh, staring at her best friend. “You could have been the bigger man and walked away you know.” She pointed out, running her fingers through her hair, no longer caring if her curls turned wavy. “Boring, I was going to dip out and call it a night to be honest.”

‘I didn’t even realize I had punched him until it was over.” He admitted and looked down. “I didn’t want to hit him because I know how it would have affected him. At the same time though...if it makes him hate me, all the better. I’d rather him hate me than have him crying all heartbroken for weeks.” He said and sighed. “Are you going to the after party? Do you want someone to walk you back?”
