“Well that sounds more depressing than ever. Anything else cooking up?” 

“I have a pizza in the oven.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right about that.” He laughed, nudging her playfully.

“What time does this game of yours start?”

“I’m pretty sure it is, Jess. I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast.”

“Still doesn’t mean my memory’s perfect.”

“Okay. It’s okay.” He whispered, wrapping her up in his arms once more. Brennan didn’t want to push her, not when she was already so upset. All he cared about right now was getting her home and making her feel better - as much as he could. “Come on, let’s get you home. Do you wanna come over?” He asked, not sure if she would prefer to be by herself.

“I don’t...” Jess didn’t know what she wanted to do. All she knew was that she wanted to get away from here. “Just take me home,” she decided.

“No, see, you’re not believable. You remember everything, you set the bar way too high.”

“My memory’s not that good.”

“Ok, I’ve seen you with your brother, and now you’re just lying to me.” He laughed.

“Well, you clearly haven’t been paying enough attention.”

“Good.” With that, Micky stepped into the bar with her sister. “I’m glad you came with me. This place is… huge.”

“It is. Let’s hope we don’t get lost in here.”

“Coffee, please.” Kasper smiled, grinning at Jess. He’d become a regular in the Bearclaw these days. “And whatever your special of the day is.”

“Here you go,” said Jess, plopping the coffee down in front of him. “And the special is clam chowder.”

Killian trudged into the Bearclaw, out of the rain, and shook slightly in a shiver when the heat from inside hit him. With a quick zip of his wand, he dried off as much as he could, walking to the counter in time. “Coffee, extra strong please,” he mumbled, sighing as he sat. Today wasn’t his day at all.

Jess poured him the coffee and handed it to him, not even bothering to point out that she was a chef, not a waitress. She just wasn’t in the mood. “Anything else,” she asked.

“Where’s the fun in that?” He asked cheekily, grinning. “If you don’t remember it didn’t happen, seems perfect to me.”

“I guess I should just forget I agreed to do this then.”

“Why do you insist on hurting me so?” He asked, his hand over his chest as if physically injured.

“You’re my boyfriend’s twin brother. We’re practically family. It comes with the territory.”

“Never? Love, you’ve got so much more than just Paris to see. You should have told me, I’ve got connections nearly everywhere.” Carter had people all over the globe that owed her, she had been collecting favors when she worked in the field, in case she ever needed to call them in. “Italy’s got to be next.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Hey, hey I’m here, it’s okay. You’re okay.” He murmured, rubbing her back as she burst into tears, not sure what was happening but knowing that he hated seeing her so upset. He leaned back just far enough to look at her face, wiping at her tears. “Jess, what happened? What’s going on?”

Jess just shook her head. She couldn’t talk about it. Part of her knew she would have to tell him at some point, but right now, she couldn’t bear to utter a word.
