Reading New York Urbanisms - Final Project on Riverbank State Park The Riverbank State Park is New York’s only public park built on top of a wastewater treatment plant.The park is located in the neighborhood of West Harlem in Upper Manhattan along the Hudson River. It was created after a long community struggle led by WE ACT, a local non-profit organization, after the residents noticed the negative effects the plant had on their health. This project is attempting to investigate to what extent environmental justice has been achieved. Take a minute to listen to Marwah’s experience moving between various countries till date. Like me, most of you will be able to relate to the feeling of being a nomad while watching this.

With this illustration, I wanted to capture my daily commute to university and the decisions I make at subway stations(nodes) if I feel like walking up a million steps through the parks early morning / take the bus / proceed with the subway (preferable) depending on my energy levels.I have to say, the road pattern and the public transportation network in NYC makes it easy for a newbie like me to find my way around.

With such disconnections, how does this city work essentially?

I was struck by the treatment given to the entry/exit points on either sides of the very same 96th subway station located in between the traffic carrying roads bordering all the four sides.

Amidst rush hour AM, it was quite amusing to see how people can not be absorbed into the craziness that the busiest hour of the day presents. 

There is so much going on in a city at one time, that people eventually shut down and begin to ignore everything that is happening around them in order to stay sane in their environment.
