Chandler’s LA
Maus banned by the McMinn County School Board
“I’m kind of baffled by this,” Art Spiegelman, the author of “Maus,” told CNBC in an interview about the unanimous vote by the McMinn board to bar the book, which is about his parents, from continuing to be used in the curriculum.
“It’s leaving me with my jaw open, like, ‘What?’” said Spiegelman, 73, who only learned of the ban after it was the subject of a tweet Wednesday – a day before Holocaust Remembrance Day.
He called the school board “Orwellian” for its action.
Spiegelman also said he suspected that its members were motivated less about some mild curse words and more by the subject of the book, which tells the story of his Jewish parents’ time in Nazi concentration camps, the mass murder of other Jews by Nazis, his mother’s suicide when he was just 20, and his relationship with his father.
“I’ve met so many young people who ... have learned things from my book,” said Spiegelman about “Maus.”
Begging, of course, the question: what kind of people don't want kids to learn about the Holocaust..?

Today’s Watch: Too Late For Tears
Liz Scott at her femme fatal best.
The weekend....
10.20.21 Watch.
Not great, in my opinion. Yours may vary.
Just didn’t think it lived up to its goal. Without that, kinda typical mob movie portraying that era. Didn’t think Michael Gandolfini was all that great.
And, always thought Silvio and Tony were closer in age. Not according to this.
I dunno...I didn’t expect much and it was still a let down.
Visually, not bad. I like how they washed the film for the vintage look. D
10.17.21 - Tonight’s watch.
About as un-noir a I can get. But like this film, a lot.
10.8.21 Today’s Watch - 2 Days in the Valley
What the HELL was this movie? Why would it even get made?
Jeff Daniels’ last scene...what was that for?
When cold-blooded killer James Spader pistol whips Eric Stolz rather than just putting a bullet in his brain...which he was seconds away from doing...well, the whole shitshow went out the window for m
Paul Mazursky was good. That dude was Hollywood.

Tonight’s Watch: Bonfire of the Vanities.
6.26.21 ~ Tonight’s watch, for the umpteenth time.
My favorite Hitchcock film. Inspired by Corell Woolrich’s short story IT HAD TO BE MURDER.
First time I saw this, in a a college Film As Art class, I let out an audible gasp the first time Grace Kelly was on screen. A crush was born...
6.23.21 - Finished this up.
Not quite as good as season 1, but enjoyable

Maybe it's because I like the film THE LAST PICTURE SHOW (in which Cybil Shepard kicks off her career.)
Or maybe it's because I spent time over the last few weeks listening to THE PLOT THICKENS,where Ben Mankiewicz interviews TLPS director, Peter Bogdanovich in which he paints the picture of the guts of that film...and an interesting career in Hollywood. But these snaps remind me of that lonely Texas town described in Larry McMurtry's book (which I read, and liked).
Even though its Central New Jersey.
Maybe its the clouds.
