Rain. I don't think I've ever prayed for sunshine so hard in my life. God came through. We had rain for most of day two and three but every night we had a couple hours of sun to dry out the gear (and our toes)! It's super humbling to be so dependent on the weather and realize you have absolutely no control. Kind of a perfect reminder of life. To Be Happy, Honk
I have found myself in a season where gratitude feels forced. It feels so much easier to look at the negatives in life, to be dragged into the hurt, pain, tiredness, uncertainty... fill in the blank. Friends ask how things are going and I find myself giving a trite, "Good, busy, but good." That's the response I give when I don't want to acknowledge what's really going on. And it's the Christian duty to always be thankful, right? Of course there is always someone having a worse day, and the news surely lets us know about that. But today... today I realized I hate living in this blah land.
I haven't really taken the time to express the things I am truly grateful for. The ugly, the beautiful. The confusing, the stable. Maybe there is a reason why in the bible thanksgiving is called a "sacrifice." Because there are days, weeks, months when to offer up that thanksgiving truly feels like a sacrifice; tears streaming, head hanging, sacrifice.
We've all seen those signs, "Honk if you're ____." In my reading this morning Ann Voskamp shared a story about a man who drove a stretch of highway every day with a sign that read "Honk if you're Happy." He found it ridiculous in the beginning, but as he continued to honk every day he found that even just turning onto the highway his emotions were more positive. He found that he looked forward to seeing that sign and honking.
Ann writes that,"'Honk if you're happy' is really 'to be happy, honk.' And 'give thanks if you are joy-filled' is really 'to be joy-filled, give thanks.'"
Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad... Seek His face continually. Remember His wonderful deeds which he has done. || 1 Chronicles 16:10-12 NASB

A roommate who laughs easily and quickly
Friends who challenge me in my walk with Jesus but continually give me grace when I fail

Discouraged
My life doesn't make sense right now. I mean... I don't know if I have ever felt as though things make sense, but especially now, I'm having a hard time understanding God's purpose. I'm having a hard time resting in His promises. I'm just having a hard time.
So I'm circling this:
Psalm 138:7-8
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me. The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.
So, I cling to the part that He will fulfill his purpose for me. I don't need to understand what that is. I just need to pray the promise.
