then, quietly you whisper for dramatic flair, “my accent”

“…your what”

“my accent” you blink at him innocently, “it’s gotten noticeably thicker over the past few weeks”

sukuna stares at you in complete silence.

“you don’t hear it?” you ask, suddenly insecure “everyone else does” you shrug.

his eyes bore down on you “what accent”

“exactly” your voice turns wounded, “you don’t even listen when i talk anymore”

“you were born twenty minutes away from me—“

not letting him finish, you grasp his collar and pull his stupid handsome face closer to you, “tell me who she is sukuna, who is this other woman you are so focused on that you won’t pay attention to me?”

you pronounce each word heavily, emphasizing your previous point of your accent thickening ofcourse.

he actually feels a headache forming.

you sigh and start tracing invisible patterns into his hoodie.

“it’s okay,” you murmur sadly, “i kinda noticed the emotional distance already”

“there is no other girl and no emotional distance”

he tucks a strand a strand of hair behind your ear before gently holding the side of your face, “there isn’t.”

“sukuna…” you say gently, like you’re explaining something difficult to a child, “three days ago i used british slang and you didn’t react at all”

he blinks, “what british slang”

“i said mental”

“…that’s your evidence?”

“if you cared about me and loved me you would’ve noticed i’m gradually becoming british”

sukuna has to physically look away from you for a second.

because this is how it always happens.

you say something so insane that his brain stalls long enough for you to build an entire false narrative around it.

last month you convinced him you could feel when he was about to annoy you “through vibrations in the air”

before that, you accused him of making you “feel geometrically unsafe”

he still doesn’t know what that means.

another day, you claimed couples start biologically syncing after enough time together and therefore if you were tired, technically he had no right to be energetic.

and somehow the conversation ended with him apologizing.

he still doesn’t know how you did that.

“you know what i think?” you continue quietly.

he already hates where this is going.

“I think you’ve gotten too comfortable.”

“too comfortable” he indulges you, for the time being.

you nod sadly, “like you think i’ll always just be here”

you gesture vaguely to yourself, “meanwhile i’m literally changing as a person right in front of you”

sukuna raises a brow, “because you said ‘mental’ once?”

“twice, actually”

he laughs before he can stop himself.

you immediately narrow your eyes again, “wow, oh my god, i’m being vulnerable and you’re laughing!”

his chest shakes under your palm trying to hold in his chuckle “because you sound insane baby”

you cross your arms over your chest not before swatting his grip away from your waist, “that’s really hurtful considering what i’m going through culturally”

“CULTURALLY?”

“you wouldn’t get it,” you mutter “you’ve always been close-minded” you wave a dismissive hand at him.

sukuna drops his head against your shoulder, shoulders shaking once again with restrained laughter.

and the worst part is you perk up instantly at that.

because now you know you’re winning.

and fuck he loves you so much, he wants you to win.

“there,” you say smugly, petting his crimson hair, “that’s the most affection you’ve shown me all week. see how i have to manipulate you into caring?”

you both grin at each other.
