FILIA GRINS IN turn, even hugging a small sigh of laughter through her nostrils as she acknowledges the truth in gourryâs statement. yes, itâs true that lina leaves quite the scorch mark in most places she visitsâŚand filia is going to conveniently shove aside the fact that she, as a golden dragonness, is just as guilty of the same such chaos. without meaning to, of course! sheâll quit while sheâs ahead. where gourry expects to be struck by a certain sorceress who isnât currently at his side, filia expects to be lectured by a certain demon who isnât currently at hers.
â no, no, it isnât that i donât want to help, i justâŚ! â her back straightens as she looks at the swordsman, hands on her hips and mouth pursed in light consternation. â i just urge you to be careful, thatâs all. â her voice lowers to a mutter outside the corner of her lips. â i may be preaching to the choir on that front, but⌠â
she inhales deeply, holding it for a few moments before releasing a cleansing sigh and exclaiming in her bell-like voice, â in any case! since the two of you are so prone to encountering fallout, unexpected or otherwise, we can both agree that the scale always tends to be on the extraordinary, and thus a metal sword simply will not do. you need something more robust, mr. gabriev. and so of course i will help you. donât worry about money. but, to save me time⌠â
filia turned to the back room of her shop with a finger on her lip, tapping it lightly as she thought of the mile long list of tasks she had to finish while taking care of a toddler. â oh! â she turns back to him, all golden smiles and rosy cheeks. â itâs not a very fashionable job, but iâve just received a new shipments of clay to the shop, as well as shipments of iron ingots. i need you first to count and inventory all of the different items, then to move them to their respective place in my storage room. normally i get the two of the shipments separate, but last month gravos hurt his back, and the poor merchant had a snag on the â anyway. is that something you can do for me? â
The swordsman scratched at the back of his head with that slight laugh of his. He can already hear Lina admonishing Filia for daring to think sheâs anything but careful when itâs clear to most people involved that she does at times tend to be reckless and impulsive.
âI always try my best but itâs not always the easiest advice to follow.â He admitted, finally bringing his hand back down as the remnants of his chuckle evaporated. Maybe if they had been more careful, they wouldnât be in the situation they were in now which given Filia didnât seem to be asking about meant he was doing a good enough job of at least avoiding the subject.
He smiled genuinely with relief then as Filia said she would be willing to help. The truth was, he really didnât have much of an alternative if Filia couldnât help and his next line would have been to ask if she knew someone who could help but if she didnât want him laying his hands on a legendary sword, then why would she help find someone else who could help in her stead?
As he pushed himself away from the table, Gourry was clearly paying attention to what she was asking of him. Often it might have seemed like the swordsman wasnât paying attention but in truth a lot of talk was often inconsequential to him. Tasks that he couldnât help with due to his lack of spellcasting, or information that just wouldnât help him as a swordsman. Given that this was all in aid to help Lina, the focus from Gourry might have seemed almost unusual given how their previous adventure played out.
âSure! I can do that!â He said cheerfully with a grin. The fact that he had to do similar tasks while as a mercenary meant this would be relatively straight forward if not maybe boring for most but he knew what the end goal was so he really didnât mind. âThanks, Filia. I really appreciate you doing this. I felt bad dropping this on you since I know you must be really busy with all that you have going on.â His eyes shifted to some toys that lay scattered about along with a small play area. He had obviously been glancing around as they spoke and was picking up on things. A few misplaced items indicating where Filia had to drop a task to do something urgently. âHe must be such a handful already.â
