For whatever reason, the naming conventions for pikmin changed around the arrival of pikmin 3, for better or for worse. I suppose lore- wise, one could argue Olimar didn't name them after the first 3 that he saw, but im not entirely sure how true that would be considering he would be present during the events of that game. I'm aware the pink pikmin were named flying pikmin because of their ability to fly up in the air, but that begs the question. Would the names of the first 3 have been different? Would they have been named fire, water and spark? Anyway, here's a fun interpretation of a flying pikmin, I think it would have been more interesting for the developers to double down on its more bug like design in order to justify the change of name.
