The downfall of 911 should honestly be studied
no hate to op but iâve seen this sentiment a lot in the past couple weeks and i feel like a lot of yall just. donât know how network tv works. like procedural dramas donât have a super long lifespans. like obviously you think of the main ones like greys anatomy and law and order but. both of those have also had distinct quality drops through the years. itâs just a part of the ride. the reason people keep watching them is because the initial seasons were so good that it makes you keep caring about the characters and storylines, not because itâs still as good as it once was. nothing about 9-1-1 needs to be studied, itâs the life of every single procedural drama known to man. idk how yall are just now noticing this, season 6, 7, and 8 all are just kind of less good than the seasons before. and thatâs okay. because i still enjoy watching the characters i love on sceeen, and so do the millions of other people who watch it every week.
yall really donât understand what a âgeneral audienceâ is and it shows.
to put it plainly: if youâre on tumblr posting about a ship, you probably arenât the general audience. spam commenting on the 9-1-1 instagram is not gonna tell them âthe general audience wants tommy backâ itâs telling them âpeople who ship these characters are fucking crazyâ. iâm not just saying this to dog on bucktommys, it also applies to buddies. fandoms of shows like this generally think they have a way more drastic impact on the show than they do.
because the âgeneral audienceâ is usually just people who watch the show when itâs on. do you know how many people just watch a show and then turn it off and donât think about it? donât post about it? itâs most of any shows audience. you donât realize this because youâre caught in your own bubble and constantly see people talking about the ship you like, or the ship you donât, so you think âoh we MUST be the general audienceâ
youâre not.
iâm gonna go ahead and beat the dead horse rq. to the bucktommys, we told yall this was gonna happen. we donât have some secret mega influence on tim minear, frankly he hates us just as much as he hates yall. we arenât influencing the writers room and even if we were, they say theyâre writing for âthe general audienceâ. we werenât saying tommy was a plot device crossing our fingers behind our backs hoping we wouldnât be wrong, we said that because WE KNEW. weâve seen enough of this goddamn show to know when a love interest is serious or not. you hearing wedding bells over a character with barely any screen time is just as delusional as you think buddies are. weâre all in a fandom, thereâs a certain level of delusion and suspension of disbelief you have to afford, but itâs actually mind boggling how upset some of yall are over this.

They have never said Buddie was intended for season 4, just bi Buck. A lot of us want to think Buddie, but I think Albert makes more sense. Either way, they have never actually said Buddie was the intention, so I find your answer misleading.
listen, if thatâs all you took from my response, i doubt thisâll do anything to change your mind. you can believe what you want to believe. iâm not a journalist, just a fangirl on tumblr. but considering how the crew talks about buck and eddie around season 3 and 4, itâs not completely out of this world to assume that buckâs bisexual storyline was meant to be with eddie. also, if you were still planning a romance between two characters, would you tell people that you already planned that arc several seasons ago? i really doubt it. obviously you can bring up buckâs bisexual arc because itâs already happened, and maybe iâm crazy, but looking at the likelihood of albert returning this season, i feel like they could have mentioned if the arc was meant to be with him.
I think part of it is ignoring what Ryan says about Eddie. How he is heterosexual, and how important it was for Ryan to portray the scene of Buck coming out to Eddie, a heterosexual character and Eddie being supportive. I forget the exact wording but that was the gist of it. Itâs fine if you want to see a character as something, but itâs knowing the difference of whatâs fanon and whatâs canon. at what point does it seem disrespectful towards the actor, who is playing the character as straight, and telling you the character is straight, to say, âwell actually, youâre wrongâ
This isnât me saying Ryan doesnât want buddie, no one knows what he does or doesnât want (outside of speculation). But I feel like maybe people donât listen to some things he says because they just donât want to hear it. So they ignore it, when he says itâs important for him to portray the heterosexual man accepting his friendâs bisexuality, because they donât like it. I think thatâs why some people may get annoyed with it. Ya know.

iâm fairly sure i know what interview youâre talking about and while yeah, that could be a reason towards choosing to view eddie as strictly heterosexual, i just donât think itâs really fair to say that because of that interview, itâs against ryan guzmanâs wishes to view him differently.
when you consider the multiple other interviews of ryan saying that heâs up for whatever the writers give them, i think itâs fair to say maybe he was just talking about how he was choosing to act that scene out, because ultimately he doesnât know what will happen between the characters.
also, i think a fair comparison to draw to is destiel, one of, if not the most famous slash ships ever. jensen ackles did not like it. at all. for awhile. over time, heâs gotten less annoyed by it, but my point still stands. is it fair to say dean winchester couldnât possibly be read as bisexual because jensen ackles intended him to be straight when portraying the character?
finally, itâs important to note that there have been interviews saying they intended to write buddie into season 4, but someone at fox told them no. along with that, lou ferrigno jr himself said that buck and tommyâs storyline was initially intended for eddie and tommy, but annelise ceparo (nataliaâs actress) did not want to return but edy ganem (marisolâs actress) did, so they gave the storyline to buck instead. neither of those times fell through because ryan guzman did not want to portray the story.
i donât wanna be a big hater after the anonymous asks i got last time i posted about a certain 9-1-1 ship but⌠i feel like those people really like to insist itâs impossible for eddie to be gay or queer because heâs dated women. but so did buck? is buck a less valid bisexual because he didnât realize he liked men until his 30s? and realizing your gay later in life is a thing that does happen, especially to formerly religious people. like why are we gatekeeping queerness just because that character being queer would possibly get in the way of the ship you like? just some thoughts.
