Inconsistent

I just need to say a few things and–

Hello! RusCan Week 2021 will start on March 14th and it will end on the 20th! Anyone can join, and make anything they want for it! Be it art, fanfic, a music video, whatever you want! 

I’ve made two suggestions for the six daily prompts, so you can pick whichever one you prefer, or you could even combine the two, it’s really up to you! I personally think they’re overlapping a lot, but they’re also pretty broad topics, so there’s a lot to imagine! And the prompts are:

Yellow / Purple on March 14th: Colours! Their hair, their eyes, the flowers associated with them, the warm sunrise or the cool sunset! 

Tourist / Domestic on March 15th: When visiting each other, are they out soaking in the cultural differences for the laughs, or are they just hanging out around the house. 

Sport / Relaxation on March 16th: Hockey, lacrosse, figure skating, ballet, versus, not doing any of that. Maybe sleeping in, relaxing in the garden, slow dancing and feeling relaxed in each others embrace.

Warm / Cold on March 17th: Summer vs Winter, Spring vs Autumn, the Olympic games, some sort of fantasy world where everyone is an elemental, anything goes!

Nature / Space on March 18th: Settings! They’re both considered nature lovers and have an interest in space (ish). Will you turn them into faeries, aliens, make a modern au? Transform the floral/celestial imagery into the base for a soulmates au?

Fairytale / Reality on March 19th: One extreme to another, wizards or gangsters, maybe a Brothers Grimm parody, maybe an alternate universe where they’re stars on a reality tv show, or just canon verse.

First of all, I think the most important thing to consider here is that Italian American food is the direct result of immigration and poverty. It’s very creation came from poor migrants who came to the US in search of a better life following the results of the 19th century.

More meats were used and dishes were fattier because immigrants suddenly were able to afford meat and products that they previously hadn’t been able to.

Romano would be right there as these dishes were being developed. Canon states he worked for America and if we go by history that’s anywhere from the 1890s-1920s. I choose to have him there that entire period for purposes with making the immigrant experience something he can more easily relate to realistic as well as giving him time to be there during the development of popular Italian American classics.

Thus, I see no reason for him to not enjoy Italian American. He was there for the development of these dishes and he would have eaten them if he was living in America at the time. Unlike Feliciano for example who would have had no interaction with Italian Americans and the culture that resulted because of the immigration, Lorenzo would have been right there during it all. He would have been an immigrant in the eyes of everyone else so naturally he would be a part of this culture of poverty ridden, mainly Southern Italian, immigrants.

Romano has experienced the world the way immigrants have - even if only briefly. That’s enough for him to have a different view of these dishes from someone like Feliciano who never had to leave Italy.

Immigration completely changes the way you view the world, yourself, and your identity as a person. I feel like it’s something that’s so easy to not consider because you never really think of the world through that lens unless you’ve lived it.

And I find this to be an important bit to how I write Romano because it’s different from the experience he’d have had just living with other nations because he was under their control since this time he isn’t under their control, he is an equal in a way (as there is little about America and Romano’s dynamic with one another that really suggests anything but a sort of lending hand versus controlling/conquering grip) and so he is living life in another nation differently than he would have before.

He’s not there as a nation.

He’s there as a person.

And that’s what makes a difference between living with another nation because he is controlled or because of nation duty versus working in America and living life like a human and as a result, experiencing what these humans create.

He’s why Italian American food exists.
