‘Innocence Lost’

I suffer from a hyper-sensitive skin condition. As a teenager, I would often attempt to cover it up; I resented being asked if I had accidentally burnt myself. Throughout the years, I have learnt to see my skin as a canvas of expression, rather than an ugly inconvenience that should be kept hidden.

Just when you thought we were done partying at House of Vans, last night we surprised Brooklyn with a Dinosaur Jr and Screaming Females show. Not only that, but the first 200 guests that showed up were even featured in a Dinosaur Jr video, filmed by Atiba. Check out some of our favorite moments from the day. 

Vans Girls at Camp Gritty It’s Do or DIY: Beaded Sunglasses

What goes best with embroidered Vans backpacks and handmade buttons? Custom decorated Vans sunnies, of course! For our final Vans Girls craft at Camp Gritty, we brought heaps of Vans Sunglasses, rhinestones, trinkets, glue, and beads for days so campers could get crafty and create one-of-a-kind sunglasses to wear in the Tennessee sunshine. From intricately beaded patterns and complex designs to funny sayings, we loved seeing everyone’s creations come to life. Want to create your own pair of custom Vans sunnies? FYF FEST | Julien Baker

Tennessee based musician, Julien Baker, charmed us with a magical set full of folky guitar riffs, and elfin-like croons that echoed through the halls. We couldn’t help but feel magnetized to Julien’s warm stage presence, and hung on to every word that left her lips. Can’t wait to see her live again! 

ART SCHOOL | MIKE EGAN (Portland, OR)

Influenced by German Expressionists like Max Beckman and Kathe Kollwitz, Portland artist Mike Egan has always been interested in death and dying. His colorful and bold paintings are covered in his signature skeletons, skulls, and flowers and often reflect his own experiences and life. We’re stoked to chat with Mike about his art, his work as a funeral director and embalmer, and his overall experiences in the art world in this round of Art School.
