Grey Water

The average person uses 101.5 gallons of water per day.

Through using only grey water for flushing the toilet and rinsing the bathroom sink, my household of two adults and numerous dogs has managed to reduce our water usage to less than that. So, basically halved water usage. It feels REALLY good.

Non-vegan leftists and environmentalists talk a good game about ecological restoration and giving the land back, but are so often resistant to so much as a conversation about reducing global meat consumption.

You guys realise about a third of the planet’s ice-free land surface is used solely for animal agriculture, right? It uses about 77% of all agricultural land, despite only producing 17% of food, making it a woefully inefficient use of land. It is just not possible to rewild or decolonise on anywhere near the scale we all want to see without a global shift away from animal agriculture and towards more efficient, sustainable land use.

This year, Dany Baillargeon is committing what he describes as “horticultural disobedience” by letting his front yard grow naturally — despite the risk of running afoul of local bylaws. The Sherbrooke, Que., resident describes his lawn as “beautiful chaos.” Its filled with plants such as wildflowers, clover and long grasses, and it is regularly visited by butterflies, bees and birds.

“I let nature take the space that it deserves,” he said in a recent interview.

Despite the advantages, it is still forbidden to grow vegetables or natural grass and flowers on front yards under local bylaws in many cities, which require residents keep lawns weeded and cut short.

(…) His message, he said, is summarized on the sign he installed on his lawn to explain his yard to his neighbours.
