Joseph Clement Coll
How Coll worked.
I found these pages on how Coll worked fascinating.Â
Joseph Clement Coll was an American book and newspaper illustrator. He was known for his pen and ink story illustrations that were used to illustrate adventure stories such as Conan Doyle’s Sir Nigel.
magicforces:
These amazing pencil sketches are by the legendary Gustaf Tenggren who was a Swedish-American illustrator who worked at Disney in the 30′s and made such invaluable and timeless contributions to the films. More specifically, let’s take a moment to enjoy the nuanced perfection in every detail of these spectacular layout pieces for Pinnochio. I really feel that his work on this film has firmly rooted the setting and world of Pinnochio in a special, wonderful and unforgettable place in our hearts. I remember seeing the intricate beauty in every object in Geppetto’s workshop and the amazing sense of scale it provided for Jiminy Cricket’s performances. Pure magic.
oh my god gorgeous

Title: One Fine Day
Medium: Graphite on Arches Paper
Around Feb 2013, I saw some early sketches for an animated indie film by Dice Tsutsumi & Robert Kondo. I got super excited and knowing what Dice has done previously and also how great Robert’s work are, I knew that they both will produce something great. Now after watching the film, I know that I was right to be really excited about it. The film was really beautiful and done with lots of heart. It continued to travel around the globe, getting lots of awards and even made to 2014 Oscar shortlist (cross fingers they’ll go further). I really look forward to seeing what both Dice and Robert (under Tonko House) will create next! :-)

This tribute piece was done in 2013, before I know anything about the story (it was still in early development back then). I had a chance to have a look at some of the early character development and run with it. I hope it resonance with the spirit of the film. In 4th Dec 2014, the piece along with over 40 others will be auctioned by Tonko House at Trickster. Proceeds go towards supporting the film.
