Because Jared was the one to make the emails he was technically the one who was genuinely impersonating Connor, so when he says “so you play who you need to play and then you get to walk away” he’s talking about more than just friendship - legally Evan would have walked away Scott free while Jared would have had his life destroyed. Not to mention Alana, she published private property meaning she and Jared would have gone down while Evan got away clean. In the end, Evan truly would have had no issues while everyone around him would have their lives go to shit.
