His MOMĀ passed away Senior year when they were driving back home and having an argument ā he still feels like his father blames him for her death.
To cope with the guilt, JB became ADDICTEDĀ to prescription drugs likeĀ codeine, Vicodin and Oxycontin which were first prescribed to him to manage pain from the accident, and laterĀ Valium, Xanax, Diazepam and Klonopin to help him with anxiety and stress in the aftermath
Although he was granted an extension to his scholarship due to the circumstances, JB DROPPED OUT after his first semester
He was 20 when he OVERDOSEDĀ intentionallyĀ
His father sent him to a privateĀ REHABILITATION CENTERĀ for 3 months
Road to RECOVERYĀ hasnāt been easy or smooth but JB is now 3 years cleanĀ
He decided to join CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENTĀ as a way of paying it forward ā the Fire Department was the first to respond both to the accident with his mom and his overdose

JB was very popular and overconfident in High School. He was very outgoing, funnyĀ and spontaneous.
After his motherās accident, JB isolatedĀ himself. He grew distant, quiet, anxious, nervous, and paranoid. He strongly believed he would hurt anyone close to him. Even if he wasnāt violent, he was very defensive.
Sober JB is a hybrid of his past. Heās slowly regaining back his confidence. Although still dealing with anxiety and guilt, he is working on rebuilding relationships. He is genuinely good-heartedĀ and often doesnāt put his own safety first at work which has earn him aĀ recklessĀ reputation.
