Hiya folks! I had the great delight of being in the jayvik au big bang this year (@jayvik-au-bigbang) and being paired with the wonderfulĀ @classic-blue for their Bridgerton Omegaverse AU fic,Ā No. 7 in E Major (abcdefu)
It really was a super fun fic to get to make art for, because I personally really love regency stories (Obligatory shoutout to Kiera Knightly in Pride and Prejudice for igniting that passion) and it's a really beautiful and ornate fic with sick worldbuilding! (Also her Jinx is so freaking fun, it's delightful)Ā

A big part of this art ended up being me incorporating my love of drawing different textiles! If you didn't notice, Jayce has some really ornate embroidery on his waistcoat, and the big inspiration for that was actually Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice!Ā
I didn't go nearly as elaborate to save my wrist but the golden florals over a darker background was definitelyĀ a starting point for me. (House Talis'Ā colours also happen to be really striking and that was an advantage) Jayce also wears a matching tie/ascot, and they would be more plain in real life, but I really liked the fabric and Mr. Talis absolutely would be that extra.
Viktor's outfit was a bit more of a struggle. I went into this with a very clear vision of what I wanted Jayce to be, because regency heroes have such a defined image. In the fic, Viktor is an omega, so I really wanted to play around with the gender roles and give him the same energy as a regency heroine. I tried a few shorter, puffed sleeved looks, but I don't think they ever really suited him.
Enter Eloise.
Throughout season 1 of Bridgerton, which very much became my background as I worked on this art, Eloise wears dresses that have upper halves that are mirroring the men's fashion, with wide lapels,Ā bigger ties and higher necks. (It's really cool symbolism actually) and that actually helped me be like: well, what if I incorporate some of the women's lines into Viktor's jacket. So: he got puffed shoulders, a shorter jacket and ribbon accents!Ā
Also you cannot see it, but his buttons and the wallpaper match.Ā
(bonus Jayce embroidery mockup because I wasĀ working on them on the same layer because theĀ vibes needed to match)
I looked up a lot of vintageĀ and Victorian (I know they're different eras but finding good regency buttons is hard) buttons. I knew I wanted to incorporate a butterfly somewhere, and while I didn't save it (cause I am a fool), I found an engraved button that had a winding vine around it that reminded me of Viktor's commune, and then the bottom of the button seemed empty, so I added the butterfly to be like: Oh it's Viktor in his little ball, all safe and sound.Ā
(Classic Blue actually caught that when I showed her it at first and I was super excited) I did end up refining the pattern a bit more for the wallpaper so it was a little less messy and the flowers matched with Jayce's embroidery a little better!
The last part of this was the frame. I really wanted it to look like someone had just caught a candid photo of the two of them talking and smiling. So I looked up picture frames and began playing around with the etchings and carvings. (The hexgemsĀ were a last minute addition for personal amusement)

I can't wait to share this fic with everyone. This was a way of coping with a bad university physics course I took a few years ago, and it got a bit out of my control.

Definitely, Superstitious Rot made me laugh the most while writing it.

A toss-up between my dark Omegaverse WIP Where Dreams Go to Die and Love is a Disease & You've Infected Me, I think.
Which is the steamiest fic you have written this year?
Probably, The Bumbling Seduction of Maitre Noir (I'd say OnlyFans James wins this one).
Which is your most valuable writing lesson learned this year?
Setting goals! I found it really satisfying to hit those goals and to track my progress each week! Challenging myself to new genres and ships was a huge motivator that kept me excited to write.
What do you look forward to writing next year?
Jayvik & Violyn from Arcane, possibly more Drarry? Considering Luna/Ginny too. Hoping to finish my two long-term WIPs! Several Jegulus WIPs and a Pandalily fic that I think about constantly.

Bloodthirsty wolves, the lot of them, in silk and chiffon sheepās clothing.
Jayce nearly fell into the seat beside Viktor, who was paging through data rolls that lolled off the table.Ā
āHaving fun?ā Viktor nearly purred.
āI feel like the prize ham in a butcherās window.ā
Viktor chuckled. Swiping the sheet roll out of the way, he pushed a fluted drink and a small plate of nibbles towards Jayce. āHere, I think you need it more than me.ā
Oh, even cucumber sandwiches looked damn good on an empty stomach. āThanks,ā he sighed. He dug with relish, stopping only to brush crumbs from his lip and stuffedly announce to Viktor, āIf anyone asks, Iām on your dance card for this period, but you have been excited by the evening and need to rest.āĀ
āEh,ā Viktor drawled, āone problem with that plan.ā He raised his notably bare wrist.
Jayce only shrugged back. Who would notice anyway?
Wellā¦ given Whistledownās track recordā¦Ā
But his eye caught the data Viktor was tracing.
Oh, his journal! āI meant to tell you!ā Jayce announced, quickly fumbling it from his pocket. He thumbed open the page, only slightly smudged from its bumpy creation, to proffer before Viktor. āI had a thought while dressingāsorry, is it weird that I brought schematics to a society event?ā
Viktorās eyebrows shot up. āOnly if itās weird that I brought your spectrogram readings to the same.ā
āReally?!ā Jayce shot out of his seat, leaning over the data sheets with new interest. His eye followed the columns, tracking the rise and fall of numbers across the span of time.
But Viktor shoved it out of the way, saying, āNo, donāt start with my logarithms, start with the graph.ā Instead, he pulled forward a line graph, which charted up and down on the sheet, the length indicating time. Jayceās eye quickly scanned down the page, rolling the end as he progressed.
Hm. Itā¦ it shouldnāt have beenā¦ working like that. The peaks wereā¦ jagged and random, like a particularly treacherous mountain range.
It was wrong.
āYour spectrogram is broken,ā he summarily announced.
āExcuse me?ā Viktor pointedly looked up from his columns of numbers.
āThese are crystals. The peaks should be periodic, but theyāre not. Your machine is broken.āĀ
Immediately, Viktor shrugged disaffectedly. āYou neglect a different conclusion: theyāre not crystals.ā
Not crystals?! Jayce laughed in disbelief. āThey have to be crystals! They behave like crystals. Every reference book refers to them as crystals! They grow in fractal patterns, just like every other type of Runeterran crystalāI confirmed it in the Ionian caves with my own eyes!ā
āYes, I know, I read your notes about that.ā Viktor was far too calm for the claim heād made.
āViktor, if it looks, walks, talks, and grows like a crystal, then itās a crystal.āĀ
āThen why isnāt the readout periodic?ā Again, Viktor challenged him guillessly.
āIāaugh.ā Jayce his hand through his hair. He glared down at the line.
