“I did want to take your hand...” Rey reluctantly confesses, giving words to the feelings that she has been struggling with for a year now. A year of pretending she is okay. A year of pretending she hates Kylo Ren. A year of having to be strong. A year of pain.

My god, just look at Adam’s face. I never looked closely at this part but LOOK AT HIS FACE. His teeth are gritted and he’s quivering. His exhale is shaky and hard. His eyes widen immediately in shock and disbelief, giving away without words how he’s been feeling this entire year of isolation and rejection. He was so certain that Rey truly hated him and that she ALWAYS had. He was certain she didn’t take his hand because he did not realize that she had always felt nothing for him, that his devotion was one sided. For a year, he has been hating himself and trying to hate her.

But in that moment, with no words spoken by him, you see the floodgates open and all those feelings come pouring out through his eyes. A year of what he had believed is wrong, all of his notions swept away by those 7 words.

And then she adds two words on that destroy him all over again in a completely different way.

Those two words tell him...

He’s been trying for years to kill the person that she is in love with. This woman that he loves, this woman that he wants to be with... He never even realized that he had been trying to murder the person that she is in love with.

He never even realized until that moment how much he had been hurting her. He had been too consumed with how much she had hurt him to realize he has been breaking her heart for an entire year. For a year, he has been inflicting pain on the only person that he wants to give everything to. He did not even realize that she did not throw him away like everyone else did. He didn’t even realize that he mattered to her in that way... Until then.

Look how scared she is. She’s scared, and she doesn’t know wtf she’s going to do with Palpatine...But then she sees Ben and almost can’t believe he’s come for her.

Baby boy looks at her so reassuringly, so calmly—making sure she’s focused on him. His face literally says, I’m with you. We’re in this together.

...And then baby girl’s eyes are literally shining with hope. She’s amazed. Someone came for her in her darkest moment. She’s not alone.
