Finals were coming up and I was stressed beyond my comfort level, so there was only one thing I wanted to do: smoke weed. I’d smoked a little during high school but once I got to college I became a certified stoner. I smoked whenever I could and I really got my smoke on whenever I was stressed out. So when I couldn’t take the stress anymore, I headed over to my dealer TC’s place. The only problem was I didn’t have any fucking money and I’d hit already hit him up for weed three times with delayed payment, the maximum that he allowed. I knew while I was on the bus heading to the downtown area that he wasn’t gonna let me smoke without payment upfront anymore, but I was desperate. Besides, he was the only weed dealer I knew in the area.
“Nah bruh,” he said to me as he took sips from a small bottle of water. “You know I only let niggas slide three times. After that, you gotta have my money. You know the rules, C.”
“Come on, TC,” I pleaded while leaning on the porch rails. “Each time I get some without payin’ you upfront, I always have that money within two the three days. Besides, you know where to find me if I fuck up. And I ain’t never fucked up, TC.”
“True but rules is rules, my nigga.”
“Let me holla at one of your boys then. They sell weed too, right?”
“Nigga, is you insane? They don’t sell no fuckin’ weed. If you lookin’ for some rock or some other crazy shit then you hit them up. And yo money gotta be ready because they ain’t like me. They’ll fuck yo lil’ college ass up.” He gave me a look and then shook his head. “Nigga, come on. My babymama be ridin’ through around this time and I can’t let that ho catch me out here. She’ll be beggin’ me for money and shit.”
He stepped into the house and I followed. I’d only been in the house he shared with his six homeboys a few times. You would never be able to tell that they sold drugs out of that house because of how clean it looked and smelled. I could hear some of his homeboys upstairs arguing about something, so I made sure I stood close by the door just in case some wild shit popped off.
“I can’t let you slide, Caiden,” he said as he sat down on the sofa and started rolling a blunt in my face. “I let you slide and then the next thing I know, every nigga comin’ up here thinkin’ I’ma let them slide.”
“You been knowin’ me since my freshman year, dude.”
“How about this, I bring you some shit that can be used as collateral. I got a PlayStation 4 and a MacBook that’s…”
He laughed and shook his head before saying, “I don’t want your shit. I got my own shit, boy. If you want some weed then you’re gonna have to think outside the box.”
When he said that, I had no idea what he meant at that time. I sat down beside him on the sofa and asked, “What do I gotta do? Like I said, you know where I be. You can get to me anytime you want so if I don’t have your money by at least three days, you and your homies can jump me. I need some fuckin’ weed, bruh.”
He laughed again and said, “Nigga, calm yo stressed out ass down.”
