Smoke & Mirrors || Bobby & Rox
Beads of sweat rolled down her dirt smudged cheeks, leaving clean tracks in their wake while blonde wisps clung to her forehead and the back of her neck. As a slight breeze blew through, Roxanne closed her sapphire orbs and welcomed the coolness. Even with the sun having set a couple hours ago the Alabama nights were still blistering. Once upon a time, Roxanne had called the Heart of Dixie home though the place had never felt like one. And it was easy for her to forget about the rough patch in her life.Â
For Roxanne, it was hard to imagine life being anything but what it was now. Struggling, fighting, surviving... thatâs what was normal to her now. Partying, drinking, dancing... everything she had been before was just a distant thought of the past. Memories lingered of happier times from before the outbreak, but even those seemed to fade away a little bit more every day and give way to what she was now.Â
The pretty blonde opened her eyes and gazed out at the thousands of stars reflecting like tiny lights in the mirrored surface of the lake before her. The darkness of the night sky reminded her curfew had been called a few hours ago, and she realized that parts of her from before had stayed the same. Her rebellious streak had always been something that got her in trouble with any kind of authority. But in this life her negative traits from before was seen as a positive thing--at times--and might have helped keep her alive. She knew the rules Bobby and the other council members had set down were there to keep everyone safe. But she had never been one to follow the rules.
