A Common Question
Q: Why are Therians always cool animals?
A: There are no “cool” animals. Humans have arbitrarily given some animals status over other animals. The animals don’t care. No animal or creature is more or less interesting or special than another. Every creature has developed a unique set of skills to survive their environment. You couldn’t switch an elephant and a polar bear and expect them to survive, but they are fine-tuned to survive in their natural habitats. Being a rabbit is no better or worse than being a wolf. The wolf actually looses the chase most of the time. Same with deer.
Spiders and insects are marvelous creatures with unique coloration, markings, and behaviors to help them survive. Some are poisonous or venomous. The venom of a small insect or spider or snake could kill a human. Does that make humans any less “cool”? No. In a way, we’re all the same but unique at the same time.
This is also true when you look at the symbolism and powers of creatures from a Shamanic point of view. A Shaman whose spirit animal is a mouse is no stronger or weaker than a Shaman whose spirit animal is a lion. The mouse has specialized abilities to lend to the Shaman that may be more beneficial depending on the situation or healing that needs to take place. The lion’s powers may not be able to do anything at all until a person’s needs match the abilities of the lion. This is why Shamans usually develop relationships with several animal spirits, insects, fish, reptiles, birds, elements, etc. and work with many of them at the same time.
